Hancock

Hancock is a great Will Smith movie. You can watch with your family and friends and have a movie night. It would also be considered a really cool gift for someone who is a Will Smith fan or a fan of his movies.

Hancock is one of Will Smiths latest movies, but it really doesn't have that Will Smith charm that some of the others have. The movie got mixed reviews, some loved some didn't feel like it measured up.

This movie is about Will Smith being a regular looking guy with super powers. He is confused about where he came from and what he is doing and somehow seems to make a mess everywhere he goes and tries to help.

He ends up running into an image consultant, Jason Bateman, and saving his life. He undergoes a transformation of sorts and makes some changes in order to reinvent his image with the public. Needless to say, all the people who were upset with Hancock changed their tune while he was away and were clamoring for his help when he wasn't around to prevent the crime rate from rising.

The story is an interesting take on the whole super hero genre and with the recent trend of showing the other side of super hero life. Films like The Watchmen and comic book series like Civil War that shows the human side or the dark side of super heroes has opened a whole new way to tell their stories. Why shouldn't super heroes have feelings and emotions? You got a little bit of that with the Superman movies of the early eighties, but they were afraid to explore the underside of the whole genre like the new films like the new Dark Knight movies. People like their super heroes to be a little more human, to feel pain, to make choices that don't always seem black and white on the surface. Hancock does a good job in that area, but just doesn't quite hit it hard enough.

You should watch this movie at least one time to form your own opinion. The extras are good too.

This complex had two full screens and 700 seats. The first airconditioned movie theater was built in 1922.

Many other venues werebuilt to show movies. The first drive in theater was built in 1933 and was inthe state of New Jersey. There are only a few drive-in movie theatres availabletoday. Drive-in movie theatres became very popular during the 1960's. Moviegoerswould watch the films either in their cars or on top of the hood of their car .Thesewere outdoor theaters were cars parked in front of an outdoor screen. They wereprovided with portable speakers to hear the sound or in some cases the soundcame from an FM radio frequency.

In 1905 in Pittsburgh,the first nickelodeon was built. This theater had five cent movies hence thename nickelodeon. The first permanent movie house was built in 1902 inCalifornia. This theatre was a storefront setup that was part of a factorybuilding. They soon became very popular and spread throughout the UnitedStates. In Canada, the first large scale movie theater in the world was built.This was the first time multiple movies were shown in one facility.

During the 1950's and1960's, many theaters were built across the country due to their growingpopularity. Actress Natalia Nazarova plays a charming and heart warming role as Viktoria, an unsuspecting mail order bride from Russia, in an independent film titled Postmark Paradise. Nazarova has been very busy woman. Besides filmmaking, the world of music has been blessed with her many talents via some fine jazz and pop vocal albums. This is her first American film role.

Natalia is charming in this film and anyone that watches it will surely fall in love with her character. The classic underdog theme makes a good storyline and is a sure-fire hook for those that like movies full of the emotion and the story of peoples lives. For her American debut, this is a fabulous effort. This young lady is star material and I would hope that someone influential in Hollywood will have sense enough to give her a chance as a leading lady in a major motion picture, I am sure she could handle it quite well. I became very engrossed in this picture and enjoyed it entirely. There was fine acting in this film; all of the characters were true to life, which made it easy to become a part of the story, as if you were right there living it.

The story of the film begins with a TV newscaster explaining how gorgeous and eligible Russian girls are looking for an opportunity to come to America and marry any willing American man, then the scene changes to the bar The Dirty Shame located in Paradise Michigan. A group of local men are in the bar feeling good and decide to check into the mail order bride phenomena. Chick (Randall Godwin) masterminds the execution of the mail order bride for their friend Jake (Vincent Angelini), who is doing time in jail for drunk driving. The expectant bride Viktoria, is delivered at his homecoming party at the bar.

When the big moment arrives, Jake comes strolling into the bar and Viktoria stands up an introduces herself with a big beautiful smile and Jake takes one look at her and shrugs his shoulders, sits at the bar, and starts drinking and telling stories. Jake has no clue what this is all about, he is taken home later in the evening falling down drunk, thinking that the girl is a present for the night from his drinking buddies. That night Viktoria leaves in distress and Reenie (multiple award winning actress Tantoo Cardinal), the only barmaid at The Dirty Shame, sees her walking down the road crying. Many more life situations and drama develop thereafter.

The film tells a unique version of the American dream in small town America, following several twists and turns, the story ends unexpectedly, which I found most pleasant and satisfying. Natalia performs several of the songs in both Russian and English on the films soundtrack. Look for it about June 29, on DVD and Video. Rated PG-13

Most people in America are busy with the details of achieving their goals and making their own place in the world. They have little time for themselves and don't want to spend it on some lost cause that most people don't care about. Some would say they just don't care; so what's the use of making a movie of the story of my investigation of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination?

What good will it do to have a full-length feature movie presented throughout the nations theaters that explores this matter when nobody has the time to care about it in today's environment? This is a question that I have asked myself for years; and continue to ask. Many believe very strongly that the story needs to be told and it needs to be told in just such a motion picture. Some believe that it is a story that has historical importance and is best served by being written in conjunction with a treatment of the civil rights movement and presented in a non-fiction literary work. Still others tell me that it should be a TV movie done in the tight commercial presentation that is best suited for today's contemporary television audience. Some would like to see it as a documentary or docu-drama. There are also those that just don't care about anything related to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and would rather everyone just quit talking about it.

If it is to be done in a film there are those that believe it can only succeed if it is a big budget, major studio production with the top producers, writers, and stars directed by the hottest new director. I watched Fahrenheit 9/11 a few days ago and found many aspects of the movie interesting. Some of the ideas discussed within the movie I had heard before. Many from newspapers and others from news radio shows or CNN.




The movie starts out showing the 2000 Presidential Election. It goes through the Florida debacle and shows video clips of what happened on the Senate floor. There were several people who testified on behalf of the people in Florida about the wrong doings. However since no Senator had signed the petition it could not be heard. By all recounts that occurred in Florida Al Gore won. The race wasnt even close.




The next segment showed George Bushs limousine driving down the middle of Washington doing the famous walk to the White House. However the limousine did not stop. It actually kept driving because of the largest protest ever was occurring, people throwing vegetables and eggs at his car every chance they had.




After this, it went through the part of George Bush going on vacation... For those of you who do not know George Bush has spent more time away from the White House than any other President has. Not by visiting other countries or taking new conferences (which he has done the least by any president in history) but by visiting his ranch in Texas.




The film then goes onto September 11th. It explains what happened that day by showing a series of videos. It shows where Bush was at the time and actually shows exactly what he did as well. While the video showing Bush sitting in a classroom full of children while the second plane hit the World Trade Center a series of other videos show, it introduces the Bin Laden family.




The Bin Laden family knew George Bush Jr. and George Bush Sr. way before either became president. The Bin Laden family had money put into Mr. Bush, several million dollars in fact. Since George Bush Sr. would not help Bush create his own business he instead got help from the Bin Ladens. Around eight businesses were bought for Mr. Bush, but only one succeeded. The one then was sold to another company where Bush was left on as CEO.




The clip then goes back to George Bush sitting in a classroom eight minutes after he was told about the tragedy that happened in New York. He did nothing but sit there in front of the children and read to them. Some might think this was a good thing where he could comfort the children, however they did not know and couldnt conjure what had happened. Also Bush did not address the American citizens during this time where the American people needed to hear from their Commander and Chief.




The movie continues to show the connection between the Saudi royal family and the Bushs. Where Bush Sr. is the only president ever to receive secret CIA information after he stepped down from president and then continued to visit the Bin Ladens.




After 9/11 many of the Bin Laden family was still within the USA. But the United States did not bother to question any of them, even though Osama was suspected as masterminding the attack. Instead the family was flown back to Saudi Arabia just two days after the attack (it was the only plane allowed in US air at the time). The FBI and CIA did not bother to question the family; they just whisked them away to safety. Isnt this ironic? Even in a murder investigation the first people that are talked to by the police are the suspects family members. So why not them? Could it be that Mr. Bush helped the family for helping him with money in his time of need?




The movie then goes on to other things that happened during his presidency. Such as the Iraq war and social security and taxes. The part about the Iraq War is very emotional. Children shown bleeding to death or with missing limbs from American bombings. The children did nothing wrong, so why should they have to suffer? The segment also shows interviews with American soldiers in Iraq. It shows their real concerns and real feelings towards the war. Not all soldiers agree with it, but since there is a media censorship in the military much can not be said, the soldiers are only allowed to say good things about the war and cannot say anything else.




Many have actually stepped down and in fact a group of people rebelled when asked to take supplies to another part of Iraq when their vehicles were not properly equipped.




The movie also shows interviews with Iraqi citizens before and during the war. It showed their true feelings for it and what really happened during the war. Tens of thousands of children are getting hurt and killed in Iraq even today. These children are not getting hurt or killed from other Iraqis, but by American soldiers who shouldnt be there.




When someone says this movie is just liberal bias and is nothing like how it is. How could it be? The movie is made up of videos where Michael Moore only comments on certain things, it doesnt dub over what someone says or does. It shows what really happened. This is just another part of conservative censorship and it needs to be put to a stop. Watch Fahrenheit 9/11 and see for yourself.
