The music, television, movie and consumer electronics industries have been struggling with the rapid advance of technology and the new virtuality of content. Here are the top eight things the industries should do to harness the technology and recapture the simple tenet of giving the customer what they want.

The music, television, movie and consumer electronics industries (hereafter collectively referred to as the industry) have been struggling with the rapid advance of technology and the new virtuality of content. Here are the top eight things the industry should do to harness the technology and recapture the simple tenet of giving the customer what they want.

1. Offer three consumption models.

a. Offer all content free with ads.

All content should be available on demand all the time free with ads. The best examples of this so far are music videos at mtv.com and music.yahoo.com and TV shows at in2tv.aol.com. The worst examples of this are the television networks who still insist on having their content time expire after only a short period of availability. Networks should use the ad model to make their entire catalog of shows, current and past, available for free all the time. All media stores, such as iTunes, should also introduce the option of listening to or watching a brief ad per 10 minutes of content or so in order to enjoy the entire content rather than just short preview clips.

b. Rent all content without ads for a fee.

This is the same as 1a only without the ads for a fee. The best examples of this so far are Netflix and Yahoo! Music Unlimited. With the former, for as low as $8.99 per month, you can rent any movie in the store, and that now includes some that can be watched directly online. With the latter, for as low as $5.99 per month, you can listen to every song in the store as many times as you want with no ads. All media stores and sites should offer this option.

c. Sell all content Digital Rights Management(DRM, or copy protection)-free.

There will still always be a market for owning content outright, such as for those times where you just don't have an Internet connection or don't want to be tethered to a server. In these cases, for both online virtual formats and offline physical formats, DRM simply should go. It has proven to hamper sales significantly due to treating everyday paying customers as if they are pirates, restricting them to play back the content on too few devices, giving them the chore of backing up and managing licenses on their computer and violating their fair use rights. DRM will always be defeatable and the industry simply needs to stop investing an inordinate amount of time and money into something that has a negative impact on their bottom line. The industry should abandon it and get back to the basic premise of allowing the customer the joy of experiencing the content they paid for without any strings attached. The best example of this so far is EMI which is now allowing media stores to sell DRM-free songs.

2. Wireless Internet-enable all devices.

The computer cannot be the only access point. TVs, cable boxes, disc players, DVRs, game consoles, portables, boom boxes, phones, car head units - in short all playback devices - should come with built-in wireless connection to the Internet for access to content servers. The best examples of this so far are the Playstation 3 and the iPhone/iPod touch Wi-Fi Music Store.

3. End format wars.

When a new format is needed to advance the industry to the next level, there should be one and only one format that goes to market and becomes the standard. Like 1c, this applies to both online virtual formats and offline physical formats.

The current example in physical formats is Blu-ray vs. HD DVD. Two formats were necessary at first to spur competition, but the differences between them at this point are so negligible that ultimately one has to win for either to succeed. A standards body needs to exist to allow competition at first and to oversee a limited beta period to ensure customer opinions are factored in, but then to ultimately pick a winner before full-scale market launch. Companies should be required to register candidate formats in the early stages. The standards body should track investment and invention level of each candidate along the way. Then a winner should be chosen with a percentage of the licensing revenue going to all of the candidates commensurate with their investment and invention level. The candidates either agree to these terms from the get-go or they do not participate in determining and profiting from the next generation format.

The current example in virtual formats is mp3 vs. AAC vs. WMA vs. yet others for audio, and mpeg-4 (H.264) vs. WMV (VC-1) vs. yet others for video. Coupled with 1c, the industry should have standardized on mp3 and mpeg-4 a long time ago to ensure that all content will be universally playable on every device.

Correcting this immediately is essential. The industry should get a standards body in place as soon as possible and declare much overdue industry standards, such as Blu-ray, mp3 and mpeg-4. The marketplace will rejoice, sales will skyrocket and the floodgates will open on the dam the industry itself has been one of the largest contributors to building.

4. Allow playlists to be defined and stored on the servers.

What 1a and 1b do is move us away from the need to store and manage our own copies of the content on our client devices (or on our shelves). Moving playlists off of the clients is a natural extension of that. When we can dial up all content including our favorite playlists on demand all the time anywhere we have an Internet connection, the convenience of not having to permanently store and backup our own copies of the data will start to prevail. The best example of this so far is Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

5. Offer movies by the chapter in addition to whole.

Just as the norm is now to be able to buy individual songs rather than just whole albums, the same option should be available for buying the individual chapters of movies. Doing so would offer the same advantages as individual song sales - the ability to collect favorite chapters at lower cost and storage use, the ability to direct-access chapters on playback and the ability to arrange favorite chapters from various movies into playlists. Note that this would require players to pre-cache the next chapter to ensure gapless chapter-to-chapter playback, but that is certainly doable.

6. Offer a choice of bitrates.

Highly compressed bitrates were fine at first, but there is no doubt that even with today's bandwidth and storage (which will only grow with time), those who want to enjoy higher bitrates should have the option. With 1a and 1b, bandwidth is the primary factor, and clearly higher bitrates are possible even today. With 1c online formats, storage is also a factor, but even with today's capacities some may choose quality over quantity for must-have content.

7. Piggyback audio on video for physical formats.

The industry moving to a new physical format is a big undertaking. Assuming a new HD format succeeds for video, then audio should just piggyback on that success. The video format will obviously have enough capacity for audio, and consumers will not have to buy additional players. Previous HD audio attempts of DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD failed for several reasons - separate audio-only players, no single digital connection such as HDMI, format war, etc. - all of which can be avoided once either Blu-ray or HD DVD is declared the standard. Albums in uncompressed PCM, both 2-channel stereo and multi-channel surround, with HD extras such as music videos, live concert footage and still photos all played through an existing player with single HDMI connection would be very compelling. With lossless compression such as Dolby TrueHD, perhaps entire album box sets could fit on one disc. These are exciting new possibilities.

8. Leverage viral marketing.

This is an extension of 1a. Provide url-addressability to free ad-coupled content that sites anywhere can provide links to - it essentially equates to free marketing for you. It doesn't matter from where the eyeballs found the content, just that they found it. More eyeballs means more ad revenue in your pocket and more exposure that will lead to the eventual purchase of the content and related merchandise such as concert tickets, t-shirts, posters, action figures, toys, etc. A free ad-supported lure has always been necessary (radio and TV) for widespread exposure. The best examples of this so far are music videos at mtv.com and music.yahoo.com and TV shows at in2tv.aol.com. Music, movies and all TV programs should get on board and realize the massive new source of constant ad revenue never before possible without the new technology.

These eight things would take the industry out of its current slump and carry it into unprecedented growth territory.

What appeared fresh and fun back in 2006 now feels like recycled goods in Happy Feet Two. The first time around, the sight of multicultural penguins singing and dancing in a gorgeous, environmentally threatened setting seemed disarmingly novel. But while a number of new characters have been introduced into the zoologically varied cast, the format and themes have a shopworn air that even the 3D Antarctic vistas and intermittent cleverness can't surmount. Commercially, however, there's no reason this splashy sequel won't perform similarly to the original, which pulled in $385 million worldwide.

It's now been 13 years since George Miller directed a live-action feature and the thought that he's devoted nearly half that time to this sequel, no matter how remunerative, understandably agitates devoted fans anxious for him to get on with his Mad Max retooling or some other project.

On the other hand, tykes will be delighted to return to the icy climes inhabited by Mumble (now a dad), Ramon, Lovelace and a host of new creatures, who face the challenges of life with varying amounts of trepidation and grit. But the minute the film opens with a massive musical number featuring what could be thousands of penguins singing and dancing in precision unison, at least some viewers will want to side with Mumble's little misfit son Erik for not succumbing to the pressure to conform by joining in the forced jubilation.

But, alas, this is not to be a penguin The Catcher in the Rye. While little Erik does run away, accompanied by two fellow Emperor tots and his dad's riffing friend Ramon, it's not really in rebellion, and the script fragments in a way that illustrates the variety of life forms on, under and around the seventh continent,the backdrops of which, as before, are vividly captured in a hyper-realistic animated style.

A more engaging quest of identity than Erik's, all the more appealing for being so absurd, centers on a pair of krill energetically vocalized by Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. Resembling tiny red shrimp, krill exist in uncountable numbers at the lowest end of the underwater food chain, there to be scooped up by the mouthful by a multitude of predators. No creatures could be more anonymous or less prone individualization, so when Will proclaims his unique identity--I am one in a krillion, he insists in just one of many such punsit's hard to not to be taken in by such unlikely hubris. Not only that, but the interplay between Damon and Pitt is especially spirited, giving their scenes an energy that feels natural rather than cranked up by music and in-your-face effects.

The feeling is palpable of Miller and his colleagues searching for new ways to present the Antarctic setting, to come up with something fresh to justify this sequel. But ultimately they fall back on such reliables as comic shtick in a variety of accents and soul/funk/rap numbers mixed with tired '70s and '80s anthem rock refrains. Indeed, the only truly inspired musical touch, which hits like a bolt from the heavens, has little Erik delivering, in a pivotal moment, a unique rendition of the 'E Lucevan Le Stelle aria from Puccini's Tosca.

As the film bounces along, much of the incident and action feels increasingly arbitrary and unmotivated. Compared to the best recent animated features, the script just isn't very funny, tending towards nutty hijinks rather than wit. Even where the disarming krill are concerned, some of their close shaves feel reminiscent of the misadventures of the desperate squirrel in the Ice Age series.

And speaking of Ice Age, the global warming theme gets another earnest workout here in a way that will win nods of approval from the Al Gore faithful but provoke irritation among those tired of being spoon fed the politically correct line. The penguins' world is seen to be melting, with puddles and wet ice in evidence, and an environmental crisis puts the vast avian population in peril requiring a desperate rescue effort. Scientifically true or not, on this subject, as well as artistically, Happy Feet Two is treading water.

Story: -

The newly appointed Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, designs a new force called NGF and allows young people to enter the program and serve the country.Seeing this opportunity, five young people from different walks of life, join this academy. Each has its own set of problems and to join the force for selfish reasons. They begin training under the effective officers Tota Chakravarthy (Venkat) and Kiran Mai (Asmita Sood)Unfortunately, they are expelled from the Academy because of their poor performance and policy. This is also the time when the CM, which began this force comes under the threat of life.Rest of the story is how these five young people who were expelled from the academy are a strength and save the CM.

Plus Points: -

story line of the film is a basic positive. idea of the story and how the NGF force was created to eradicate corruption is quite good.Venkat plays a crucial role in this film after a long interval. It looks and plays his role to perfection, but unfortunately it has not been used well by the director. The same is the case with Asmita Sood as it provides the necessary eye candy, but once again wasted.Coming five young Kranti Reddy, who played the role of John did a great job. He had a difficult role with family responsibilities, he presented quite beautifully. He has a bright future and if he chooses his films well, it could go a long way.
On the road, yet another Kranti actor did a good job in the role of Altaf and connects well with the public. Nagineedu is good that the bad guy, and is Posani in a cameo.
Climax of the filmis really interesting and was well executed.

Minus Points: -

Major drawback of the film is the execution part. After such an interesting story, the director lets her down with poor execution. What is written on paper has not been turned into film.
As the film unfolds in the police academy and Venkat is the officer assigned, its role is very short. There were a lot of opportunities that the angle and the director failed to come stupid comedy.The episode of the comedy Paipula is quite a disadvantage and could be easily modified in the final cut. Rather than focusing on NGF and execution of the murder CM, the film goes off track and remains in the lives of five young detail.

Technical aspects:-

the camera work is quite OK, and showcases the film in a good light. The episodes of the academy and all the rich looks and was well fired.Songs of the film are below par and especially the wedding song in the second half new spoils the flow of the film. Dialogues are OK and so is the background score.The assembly is very bad in a number of scenes in the movie could have been cut. Director Anil Jason disappoints us completely, even if he had a strong enough script.

Verdict: -

Overall, Aa Aiduguru is a movie with a good script and relatively poor execution. Underutilization of stars, and shaking off the main plot are the main disadvantages of this film. Except for some promising players, the film can be watched when the DVD is out.

Plus Points: -

As usual, Tarun looks beautiful and takes his role to perfection. It is the only point of this film, and is exceptional in emotional scenes.Sri Hari does his best and gives an honest performance. Interval Bang and the first 15 minutes in the second half is quite interesting.

Minus Points: -

Although Yami Gautam has an important role, she did not take it well. She is extremely ill with dances and expressions. His chemistry with Tarun has no effect.For the first fifteen minutes, the film takes off. scenes and characterizations routine, come and go in the film.Yet another major irritant factor of the film is the comedy track of Venu Madhav and Krishna Bhagvan. He's completely on top and could have been completely avoided.How emotions are processed in the film is quite ordinary. the camera work is quite decent in the film. The songs are spirited and were also shot well. The background score is about OK, and thus the assembly.Screenplay is pretty bad. As said above, unnecessary scenes in the movie comes from nowhere and cause a huge obstacle to the film.Dubbing is horrible in the movie. The voice actor Staff were doubled, which seems strange on the screen. After a decent story, director Ganesh Bharti could not run well this film. It does not focus on the script and releases the handle completely.The so-called twists that are presented are also not interesting. Some scenes and characters in the film do not add any weight to the film.

Verdict:-

Overall, Yudhham is not a film that Tarun wanted to make a comeback with. routine storyline and unnecessary humor remains and forced the story completely. You can skip this movie and watch it when it comes to television.

Actress Natalia Nazarova plays a charming and heart warming role as Viktoria, an unsuspecting mail order bride from Russia, in an independent film titled Postmark Paradise. Nazarova has been very busy woman. Besides filmmaking, the world of music has been blessed with her many talents via some fine jazz and pop vocal albums. This is her first American film role.

Natalia is charming in this film and anyone that watches it will surely fall in love with her character. The classic underdog theme makes a good storyline and is a sure-fire hook for those that like movies full of the emotion and the story of peoples lives. For her American debut, this is a fabulous effort. This young lady is star material and I would hope that someone influential in Hollywood will have sense enough to give her a chance as a leading lady in a major motion picture, I am sure she could handle it quite well. I became very engrossed in this picture and enjoyed it entirely. There was fine acting in this film; all of the characters were true to life, which made it easy to become a part of the story, as if you were right there living it.

The story of the film begins with a TV newscaster explaining how gorgeous and eligible Russian girls are looking for an opportunity to come to America and marry any willing American man, then the scene changes to the bar The Dirty Shame located in Paradise Michigan. A group of local men are in the bar feeling good and decide to check into the mail order bride phenomena. Chick (Randall Godwin) masterminds the execution of the mail order bride for their friend Jake (Vincent Angelini), who is doing time in jail for drunk driving. The expectant bride Viktoria, is delivered at his homecoming party at the bar.

When the big moment arrives, Jake comes strolling into the bar and Viktoria stands up an introduces herself with a big beautiful smile and Jake takes one look at her and shrugs his shoulders, sits at the bar, and starts drinking and telling stories. Jake has no clue what this is all about, he is taken home later in the evening falling down drunk, thinking that the girl is a present for the night from his drinking buddies. That night Viktoria leaves in distress and Reenie (multiple award winning actress Tantoo Cardinal), the only barmaid at The Dirty Shame, sees her walking down the road crying. Many more life situations and drama develop thereafter.

The film tells a unique version of the American dream in small town America, following several twists and turns, the story ends unexpectedly, which I found most pleasant and satisfying. Natalia performs several of the songs in both Russian and English on the films soundtrack. Look for it about June 29, on DVD and Video. Rated PG-13

story:

Anand Rao (Rao Ramesh), is the head of Lakshmi Nilayam and is a very strict father. After his daughter Lakshmi (Avika Gor) finished his studies, he obtained his fiancee to a software engineer.Moreover, Sai (Naga Shourya) gets to see Lakshmi and falls flat for her. He meets and expresses his love directly. But it gets a huge shock when Lakshmi told her that she is already engaged. What is Sai doing now? Will it continue to woo Lakshmi? This forms the rest of the story.

Plus points:

For starters, the voice of Raj Tarun on when it presents all the characters is quite good. The first 40 minutes of the film is engaging and entertaining. The episode interval is also impressive. Coming to the performance, the young hero Naga Shourya gave a mature performance than his previous films. It looks beautiful and enacts quite convincingly. For the first time, this lover boy attempted action sequences and it is quite impressive with his fights. Avika Gor looks gorgeous in Indian attire and gave a dominant performance.Rao Ramesh gives a decent performance as a strict father. Sapthagiri comedy track is also a major asset for the film. Rest of the cast as Vennela Kishore, Naresh, Pragathi and Satyam Rajesh Venu were good in their respective roles.

MinusPoints:

After the first 40 minutes, the film gets stuck and moves at a snail's pace until episode apart. Post interval, the entire second half died slowly as the story goes haywire. Most of the second half seems to have been inspired starrer Ram 'Ganesh.The director included a fight sequence in the climax, which was quite unnecessary. There are many logical errors in the film and the highest point is unclear. Most of the movie is very predictable and nothing new was offered through his story line.

Technical aspects:

The photograph of Bala Reddy is superb as each image looks great and beautiful. He presented Vizag beauty enough. K.M.Radhakrishna music is good, but his background score is inconsistent. Film editing is poor, like most of the film wanders here and there. The film's production values are high. Debutante director Nandyala Ravi treated his characters as well, but his script during the second half of the failures and going for a draw.Sapthagiri comedy track is also a major asset for the film. Rest of the cast as Vennela Kishore, Naresh, Pragathi and Satyam Rajesh Venu were good in their respective roles.

Verdict:

Overall, "Lakshmi Raave My Intiki is just an entertainer below average which is good only in pieces. The entertaining first half, energy performance Naga Shourya and Avika Gor are the main positives. On the other hand, a second half slow paced and a climax flat spoil the fun completely.

A Nostalgic Look At Classic Trucks in Movies And TV Shows

Until I stopped to think about it, I never totally realized just how many movie and TV shows hosted some pretty darn incredible classic trucks in their movie scenes and show episodes. I’m sure I don’t remember all of the very best ones, but here are some pickups of honorable mention that I was impressed with.

Even as a young kid in the mid 1950’s, I recall loving that old 1958 Dodge D-100 farm truck on the TV series Lassie. I wished that I could ride on the back of it like Timmy did.

Who didn’t feel horrible for poor Forrest Gump when he was forced to outrun the 1951 Ford pickup that was chasing him with a truck full of bullies? “Run Forrest Run” became a famous quote from that movie scene.

No one made me laugh harder than old Redd Foxx on the TV series Sanford and Son. He had a pretty neat 1951 Ford pickup that he banged around in.

Who could forget the cool gray and maroon 1975 GMC K-15 Sierra Classic pickup truck from the TV episodes of Rockford Files from 1974-1980. Jim Garner’s dad “Rocky” drove it on the series.

How about the 1972 Dodge D-300 from the TV show Emergency Squad 51.

I’ve always loved shows that had some bad-ass power truck scenes in them, like the TV series Simon and Simon about two detectives, Gerald McRaney and Jameson Parker. Watching their Dodge Power Wagon with the wrecker bar turn a car into a sardine can was awesome.

The movie, No Country For Old Men from 2007, with Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem had several scenes with classic pickup trucks in it which is pure eye candy for truck enthusiasts, not to mention the fact that it was a really good movie period.

Red Dawn starring Patrick Swayze had a good-looking 1984 Chevy truck in it that caught my eye. Sweet Home Alabama also had a sweet GMC pickup worth mentioning.

The TV series Fall Guy, starring Lee Majors, always had me eyeing that 1982 GMC Sierra Grande 4 x 4 that Colt Seavers drove. What a sweet ride that was!

What a classic beauty, the truck I mean, at the end of the Tom Hanks movie, Castaway. That one was a 1955 Ford F-100. Oh, and the girl was a classic beauty too.

My all time favorite was Charles Bronson in Mr. Majestyk in 1974. If you’ve seen this movie, you must recall the 1968 yellow Ford F-100 I-beam. They really made that pickup work for it’s “Ford Tough” title, and it stood up to all they put it through right to the end of the movie. This is entertainment at its best for truck lovers.

I also enjoyed the 1966 tan GMC short step side in Any Which Way You Can movie (1988 sequel) and the 1955 Chevrolet 3100 in Philo Beddoe’s Every Which Way But Loose (Right Turn Clyde) with Clint Eastwood.

I asked my wife if she recalled any great pickup trucks in movies she has watched over the years. Mostly, she pays attention to the good looking actors, but surprised me with mentioning the red 1972 Chevy C-10 that drove off a cliff in Bill Murray’s Ground Hog Day. Her next comment was the 1962 Chevy C-10 from Bridges over Madison County. She has watched that movie umpteen times, but I suspect it’s not because of a classic pickup truck in it.

It will be interesting to note which “classics” of my present day that my grandchildren will see in decades to come. I can’t imagine a 2017 Ford Raptor being in a movie forty years from now, but I bet it will be in some chase scene one day, so I can only hope that the grandkids’ generation can appreciate its nostalgia.
