The music, television, movie and consumer electronics industries (hereafter collectively referred to as the industry) have been struggling with the rapid advance of technology and the new virtuality of content. Here are the top eight things the industry should do to harness the technology and recapture the simple tenet of giving the customer what they want.

1. Offer three consumption models.

a. Offer all content free with ads.

All content should be available on demand all the time free with ads. The best examples of this so far are music videos at mtv.com and music.yahoo.com and TV shows at in2tv.aol.com. The worst examples of this are the television networks who still insist on having their content time expire after only a short period of availability. Networks should use the ad model to make their entire catalog of shows, current and past, available for free all the time. All media stores, such as iTunes, should also introduce the option of listening to or watching a brief ad per 10 minutes of content or so in order to enjoy the entire content rather than just short preview clips.

b. Rent all content without ads for a fee.

This is the same as 1a only without the ads for a fee. The best examples of this so far are Netflix and Yahoo! Music Unlimited. With the former, for as low as $8.99 per month, you can rent any movie in the store, and that now includes some that can be watched directly online. With the latter, for as low as $5.99 per month, you can listen to every song in the store as many times as you want with no ads. All media stores and sites should offer this option.

c. Sell all content Digital Rights Management(DRM, or copy protection)-free.

There will still always be a market for owning content outright, such as for those times where you just don't have an Internet connection or don't want to be tethered to a server. In these cases, for both online virtual formats and offline physical formats, DRM simply should go. It has proven to hamper sales significantly due to treating everyday paying customers as if they are pirates, restricting them to play back the content on too few devices, giving them the chore of backing up and managing licenses on their computer and violating their fair use rights. DRM will always be defeatable and the industry simply needs to stop investing an inordinate amount of time and money into something that has a negative impact on their bottom line. The industry should abandon it and get back to the basic premise of allowing the customer the joy of experiencing the content they paid for without any strings attached. The best example of this so far is EMI which is now allowing media stores to sell DRM-free songs.

2. Wireless Internet-enable all devices.

The computer cannot be the only access point. TVs, cable boxes, disc players, DVRs, game consoles, portables, boom boxes, phones, car head units - in short all playback devices - should come with built-in wireless connection to the Internet for access to content servers. The best examples of this so far are the Playstation 3 and the iPhone/iPod touch Wi-Fi Music Store.

3. End format wars.

When a new format is needed to advance the industry to the next level, there should be one and only one format that goes to market and becomes the standard. Like 1c, this applies to both online virtual formats and offline physical formats.

The current example in physical formats is Blu-ray vs. HD DVD. Two formats were necessary at first to spur competition, but the differences between them at this point are so negligible that ultimately one has to win for either to succeed. A standards body needs to exist to allow competition at first and to oversee a limited beta period to ensure customer opinions are factored in, but then to ultimately pick a winner before full-scale market launch. Companies should be required to register candidate formats in the early stages. The standards body should track investment and invention level of each candidate along the way. Then a winner should be chosen with a percentage of the licensing revenue going to all of the candidates commensurate with their investment and invention level. The candidates either agree to these terms from the get-go or they do not participate in determining and profiting from the next generation format.

The current example in virtual formats is mp3 vs. AAC vs. WMA vs. yet others for audio, and mpeg-4 (H.264) vs. WMV (VC-1) vs. yet others for video. Coupled with 1c, the industry should have standardized on mp3 and mpeg-4 a long time ago to ensure that all content will be universally playable on every device.

Correcting this immediately is essential. The industry should get a standards body in place as soon as possible and declare much overdue industry standards, such as Blu-ray, mp3 and mpeg-4. The marketplace will rejoice, sales will skyrocket and the floodgates will open on the dam the industry itself has been one of the largest contributors to building.

4. Allow playlists to be defined and stored on the servers.

What 1a and 1b do is move us away from the need to store and manage our own copies of the content on our client devices (or on our shelves). Moving playlists off of the clients is a natural extension of that. When we can dial up all content including our favorite playlists on demand all the time anywhere we have an Internet connection, the convenience of not having to permanently store and backup our own copies of the data will start to prevail. The best example of this so far is Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

5. Offer movies by the chapter in addition to whole.

Just as the norm is now to be able to buy individual songs rather than just whole albums, the same option should be available for buying the individual chapters of movies. Doing so would offer the same advantages as individual song sales - the ability to collect favorite chapters at lower cost and storage use, the ability to direct-access chapters on playback and the ability to arrange favorite chapters from various movies into playlists. Note that this would require players to pre-cache the next chapter to ensure gapless chapter-to-chapter playback, but that is certainly doable.

6. Offer a choice of bitrates.

Highly compressed bitrates were fine at first, but there is no doubt that even with today's bandwidth and storage (which will only grow with time), those who want to enjoy higher bitrates should have the option. With 1a and 1b, bandwidth is the primary factor, and clearly higher bitrates are possible even today. With 1c online formats, storage is also a factor, but even with today's capacities some may choose quality over quantity for must-have content.

7. Piggyback audio on video for physical formats.

The industry moving to a new physical format is a big undertaking. Assuming a new HD format succeeds for video, then audio should just piggyback on that success. The video format will obviously have enough capacity for audio, and consumers will not have to buy additional players. Previous HD audio attempts of DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD failed for several reasons - separate audio-only players, no single digital connection such as HDMI, format war, etc. - all of which can be avoided once either Blu-ray or HD DVD is declared the standard. Albums in uncompressed PCM, both 2-channel stereo and multi-channel surround, with HD extras such as music videos, live concert footage and still photos all played through an existing player with single HDMI connection would be very compelling. With lossless compression such as Dolby TrueHD, perhaps entire album box sets could fit on one disc. These are exciting new possibilities.

8. Leverage viral marketing.

This is an extension of 1a. Provide url-addressability to free ad-coupled content that sites anywhere can provide links to - it essentially equates to free marketing for you. It doesn't matter from where the eyeballs found the content, just that they found it. More eyeballs means more ad revenue in your pocket and more exposure that will lead to the eventual purchase of the content and related merchandise such as concert tickets, t-shirts, posters, action figures, toys, etc. A free ad-supported lure has always been necessary (radio and TV) for widespread exposure. The best examples of this so far are music videos at mtv.com and music.yahoo.com and TV shows at in2tv.aol.com. Music, movies and all TV programs should get on board and realize the massive new source of constant ad revenue never before possible without the new technology.

These eight things would take the industry out of its current slump and carry it into unprecedented growth territory.

Characters who become flesh and blood people who stay with the audience long after the movie or season is over. Whom you care so deeply about that the slightest hurt or setback to them is something the viewers take personally and discuss, rant, angst about – good recent examples would be Jon Snow (GOT) and Eleven (Stranger Things).

So what makes a character so memorable that it can lead to one becoming a top script writer

Relatability/Identifiability – This invariably connects to human frailties or vulnerabilities that strike a common chord with anyone who is watching. Like Jon’s desperate need to belong, for a family, his feeling like an outsider – we’ve all gone through this in school, college, work, maybe even home. It immediately gets us to feel for him. We have the same, only these characters take it to different level and that becomes a point for inspiration for us.

Dreams and Ambitions – This is always easy to connect with – now the key thing to remember that it isn’t about the specific ambition, like we may not want to be a ball player or an Underworld don. But we all want to be rich, famous, successful, we want to be loved. Any ambition or goal is ultimately a manifestation of that – and if the core emotions are brought out – an audience will always relate and connect to the characters’ dreams and ambitions.

Humour – Just like a touch of salt/pepper/chilli in food, humour is the spice that always enlivens and makes a character so much more likable. This works even in the case of a villain one loves to hate – Gabbar, Mogambo or an otherwise serious character having a moment of levity or being out in a funny situation – case in point from Jab We Met being the angsty, serious Aditya having to deal with Geet’s strange exchange with the seedy lodge owner.

All of these are just guidelines, good tricks to becoming one of the best storytellers in India. But ultimately a great screenplay and awesome characters have to come from one’s own heart and life experiences. The key – if the creator loves the characters, the audience probably will too. If we as creators can’t stand them, no way is the audience going to like them.

Unplug Your Brain from the TV Matrix

In the movie The Matrix, humanity was enslaved by machines that plugged into their brains and created an artificial reality, while sapping their energy. Only when people unplugged from this Matrix would they begin to see, feel, and live in the real world. It is not too different from how many people live a good chunk of their lives plugged into a television set. The TV creates an artificial reality, and drains people of their valuable time and energy...and money. It is only when a person unplugs from the television matrix that their real life begins.

It is amazing how much of peoples views of reality are dictated by the TV screen. Ideals, morals, norms, paradigms, world views and belief systems are all projected into peoples minds, through such diverse vehicles as the soap opera, documentaries, televised sports, reality shows, 'news', the 'WWF', and even 'cartoons'.

The reason the TV has this power is that the brain has several major areas that react differently to the world, and to TV. One area of the brain is the more primitive, emotional, non-rational part. This part is not able to distinguish between what is real and what is not. It simply reacts to situations on an emotional basis. The other part of the brain is the logical part, the part that analyzes situations logically and deciphers what is real vs. what is not real, like TV. Together they help an individual survive.

The problem with television is that it largely shuts down the center of the brain which deals with critical thought. When a person is watching television, primarily his or her emotional center is reacting, and the emotional center reacts to the images as if they were real. That is why a person can become so engaged in a movie or soap opera or even a sports event. That part of the brain does not truly understand that it is not real.

In that sense it is also like a dream. While dreaming, a person cannot tell that they are merely dreaming and their thoughts do not carry into the real world. The difference with dreaming and television is that in dreaming the dreamer, at least his or her subconscious, is actually in control. With television, the media and broadcasting companies, and their executives, are in full control - at least, until someone turns off the TV.

Furthermore, the more TV a person watches, the more the logical side of the brain will atrophy. The more a persons critical thinking atrophies, the more he or she will lose touch with the real world. The more that person loses touch with the real world, the more vulnerable they will be to manipulation and the more dependent they will be on the television to tell them what to think, do, and say.

So, unplug your brain from the TV. A whole new life awaits you, a real life, a life that you will create. What happens after that is up to you. As Neo says at the end of The Matrix, Im not here to tell you how this is going to end. Im here to tell you how it's going to begin.

'Selfie Raja' could have been a better product with the appropriate script and narration. Now we have a half-baked product. The movie is filled with some hilarious comedy at times and sometimes they are annoying.

Story:

Allari Naresh who delivered series of failures, badly needs a hit and tried to make a come back with a different kind of comedy. The film got released today and we'll see how the film is shot. Allari Naresh (selfie Raja) is a happy man who marries will Kamna Ranaut is Police Commissioner daughter (Nagineedu). Like his Father-In-Law has personal problems with a criminal in his professional life, the criminal gets revenge and creates problems in married life selfie Raja. It breaks married life. A selfie upheaval Raja decides to end his life. He hires a hit man to shoot him. But the twist occurs when the contract killer made larger than kill selfie Raja plans. What is his plan? Why he never killed? What happened to his marriage life? Attention to the silver screen.

Star Performance:

Allari Naresh decided to cement his strong, 'Comedy Genre'. He clearly made the decision what to do and what not to do. He was completely honest in his character and in fact, he succeeded with his body language. But with a wafer thin screenplay he failed again. Ravi Babu who made role Killer contract is crazy. Its role is neither stupid nor serious. It was completely left halfway. Surprisingly, Kamna Ranaut has solid debut. Apart from glamorous, it worked well too. It can be a good actress with the right choice of films in the future. Shakalaka Shankar and his snake comedy is something to celebrate. The rest of the cast has done justice to their roles. But unfortunately none of them remain in our mind the moment we walk in the theater. This also includes Nagineedu!

Techinical Team

G.Eshwer Reddy has weak leadership and failed to control the narrative. Obviously, he lost it as he was forced to stuff comedies and unwanted songs. Each song is an obstacle to the peak flow of the story. Forced comic episodes not even evoke smile on our faces. Scenario is even more pathetic. Things go haywire and the whole movie is like watching commercials during the movie break. Inexperience was completely obvious. Dialogues are witty and they are the backbone of the film. The music of Sai Kartheek is below par. In fact, the songs act as barricades. Furthermore there is no linear narrative between the first half and the second half. The production values are good. But everything falls flat when things become pathetic scenario. Cinematography was clean and simple. Nothing more to boast.

Regina Cassandra is absolutely beautiful with each film. She is very beautiful in Indian attire, and did well in the emotional scenes too. Again, Jagapathi Babu plays an impressive supporting role. He played brilliantly in the first half and introduced the provision of incredible dialogue.major plus point of the film is the racy story. The entire credit must go to the manager who told the film is in an interesting way. Pace in the movie does not dip much and moves quickly. comedy factor is quite good and Raghu Babu walks away with all the credit here. It is hilarious and offers exceptional entertainment with Jayaprakash Reddy.

MinusPoints: -

While the highlight is entertaining, it looks a bit overboard with the end result. Path of love between Regina and Teju does not seem convincing. characterization of Regina seems jaded and could have been dealt with more clarity.Once the twist in the tale is revealed, the film becomes predictable. Prakash Raj's character and political angle should have been presented more in the first half.

Technical aspects:-

The production values look good that manufacturers have made sure Teju gets a perfect set up. Anup Rubens the music is superb, and all the songs correspond supremely well to the plot. Choreography designed to Teju also looks good and the pre-climax fight between Jagapathi Babu and Teju was designed well.Ravi Kumar Chowdary did a great job with him. The way he told the film with interesting flashback mode is quite new. written dialogues for Jagapathi Babu are good and all the scenes between him and Teju came out well. Screenplay of the film is the climax, as all the plots and twists were cleverly revealed.

Verdict:-

With Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitaham Tollwood still gets another promising hero in the form of Sai Dharam Tej. Although it looks a bit rustic, Teju is quite convincing in his role. The lack of clarity in the character and Regina chemistry between the lead pair are basic rented there. But a racy narration, hilarious comedy and beautiful songs cover this up and make this movie a decent young artist.
