Bollywood Movie Review - Lage Raho Munnabhai

Okay fingers up, how many of you have seen this movie? May not be a blockbuster or a box office hit hindi movie but it is definitely worth a watch. Perhaps more than once. Why? Just imagine, Sanjay Dutt tackling his enemy by following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. For the uninitiated, he is a beefcaked bollywood actor with a really mean mafia look who looks like a former Brisbane Lions regular player. I was referring to the former of course.

This is definitely one of my favourite movies as the story, screenplay and entertainment factors are brought up very well. This movie goes down as one of the most meaningful movies in Indian film industry. The essence of the movie is about applying the teachings of Gandhi in today's world and downright hilariousness is ensured from the pairing of Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt. Hahaha... watch it. No seriously... watch it.

Story:

This is the second installment to the Munnabhai MBBS movie series. The kind hearted don, Munnabhai (played by Sanjay Dutt), researches day and night on Mahatma Gandhi in order to impress the lady of his dreams and that is when Gandhi appears in front of him either as a soul or a figment of Munnabhais hallucination. An adventure then starts in a meaningful way for him where he learns how to deal with people and their problems by applying Gandhis principles.

Screenplay:

Perhaps the sole challenge of the movie is the application of Gandhis philosophy to solve todays people related problems and it is carried out so well in the movie. The comic timing of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is flawless. Boman Irani, in his typical fashion of doing something different in each movie, contributes further to the comedy by portraying a very stereotypical image of a Sardar. Even though the comedy does justice to the entertainment factor on a high scale, it does not deviate from the central theme and is able to deliver all the messages beautifully.

Cinematography:

Cinematography is done fairly well according to a typical Indian movie standard.

Video Editing:

There is not much video editing for the movie since there is no need for it. It is mainly focused in songs, especially in the Pal Pal song sang by Bollywood melody queen, Shreya Ghoshal.

The trailers of Srirastu Subhamastu have impressed everyone all over. This film which has released all over today is quite crucial for Allu Sirish’s career. Let’s see whether this young mega hero impresses us and gets his much needed hit or not.

Story:-

Sirish(Allu Sirish) belongs to a well to do family which is headed by Prakash Raj. Things in his family get disturbed when Srirish’s brother loves and marries a middle class girl against his father’s will.

In this crunch situation, Sirish falls in love with a yet another middle class girl called Anu(Lavanya) and reveals about this to his father. An upset Prakash Raj, gives him a piece of his advice and asks him to back off from the relationship.

An adamant Sirish, challenges his father that he will win his love by not using his family name. In this process, he woos Anu and right when the time things start getting positive, Anu’s father(Rao Ramesh) arranges her marriage with some one else.

Rest of the story is as to how Sirish manages to convince both Anu’s parents and his and finally comes out victorious.

Plus Points:-

One of the biggest asset of the film is the feel good nature of the story. Even though the film has a routine premise and predictable story line, the way the proceedings have been narrated makes things entertaining. The film is filled with romance, family emotions and comedy in right doses and gives the audience decent entertainment. Interval bang is very good.

Probably, this is the best performance and look for Allu Sirish till date. He has cleverly played to his strengths and goes with the mood of the film which is quite good. Sirish’s performance in crunch scenes is decent and his hard work shows off on screen. First half of the film has romantic moments and the second half is filled with memorable family elements.

Once again, Lavanya Tripathi gets a meaty role and impresses big time. Her homely look and emotional character works pretty well and is one of the highlights. Rao Ramesh is amazing as the doting father and his dialogues and chemistry with Lavanya is endearing. After a long gap, Ali gets a hilarious role and all his scenes with Subba Raju are just hilarious.

Minus Points:-

As said earlier, plot of the film is ages old and has nothing much interesting to offer. Prakash Raj’s character is diluted in the end as the senior actor has noting much to do in the film except for the climax.

Even though the climax is good, it feels like it has been ended in a hurry. A senior actress like Sumalatha should have been given some more importance in the film.

Technical Aspects:-

Production values by Geetha Arts are top notch and they have not shied away from making this film look rich. Thaman’s music is quite pleasing and goes with the mood of the film. Editing is top notch as the makers have cleverly packaged the film in a neat manner. Dialogues written are very good and so was the art direction.

Coming to the director Parasuram, he has done a superb job with the film. After having a predictable story line, the way he narrated the film with ample entertainment and good dose of emotions shows his talent. He also scores brownie points for extracting a good performance from Sirish and showcasing him in a very decent manner.

Verdict:

Srirastu Subhamstu will surely be the much needed hit that Allu Sirish is looking for in his career. If he chooses interesting scripts like these, he will go a long way in Tollywood. Good performances, entertaining comedy and moving family emotions through out the film are basic assets. If you go in with an open mind and ignore the predictability of the script, this film will not disappoint you at all. A simple and breezy watch.

This is also the time when two rival groups start fighting for power in the city. A small fight with one of the gangs, Siva land in a huge difficulty.Who is this group? Do they have something to do with the past of Siva? How Siva go against them?. For answers to all these questions, you need to watch this movie on the big screen.

Plus Points: -

Vishal does a decent job, and is especially good in action episodes. Aishwarya Arjun made a decent effort. Although she did not have many scenes to accomplish, she made the most of his screen time.Santhanam's comedy is good in his usual role. Action episodes were designed and well turned. It was during the second half, the film picks up speed, and makes it a little interesting.

Minus Points: -

Pace of the film in the first half is quite slow. Scenes were trained at the base, and the placement of songs do not help matters much.Manufacturers have focused a lot on the action sequences, leaving the heart of the film. Tamil nativity might not be loved by the people here.

Technical aspects:-

the work of the camera is quite good in the film. How the action scenes were covered is decent. Editing in the first half was bad enough that many scenes could be cut to make the film crispy.Music by SS Thaman is just below average. Not even a song is good, and impede the flow of the film. Verdict:-

Overall, the Vishal adventure as a producer is not up to the mark. A first half slow and tedious, and a few moments of routine and boring spoil the fun. Give this movie a shot, if you do as an action desi hardcore Vishal.

The other part of the brain is the logical part, the part that analyzes situations logically and deciphers what is real vs. what is not real, like TV. Together they help an individual survive.

The problem with television is that it largely shuts down the center of the brain which deals with critical thought. When a person is watching television, primarily his or her emotional center is reacting, and the emotional center reacts to the images as if they were real. That is why a person can become so engaged in a movie or soap opera or even a sports event. That part of the brain does not truly understand that it is not real.

In that sense it is also like a dream. While dreaming, a person cannot tell that they are merely dreaming and their thoughts do not carry into the real world. The difference with dreaming and television is that in dreaming the dreamer, at least his or her subconscious, is actually in control. With television, the media and broadcasting companies, and their executives, are in full control - at least, until someone turns off the TV.

Furthermore, the more TV a person watches, the more the logical side of the brain will atrophy. The more a persons critical thinking atrophies, the more he or she will lose touch with the real world. The more that person loses touch with the real world, the more vulnerable they will be to manipulation and the more dependent they will be on the television to tell them what to think, do, and say.

So, unplug your brain from the TV. A whole new life awaits you, a real life, a life that you will create. What happens after that is up to you. As Neo says at the end of The Matrix, Im not here to tell you how this is going to end. Im here to tell you how it's going to begin.

Sure, sex may be different from jogging or chess in how much pleasure you can attain, but that is a useless point to make: I am discussing intrinsic values here. There are certain drugs which are fully capable of making someone feel hundreds, if not thousands of times better than they would from on orgasm, yet there are no philosophical or abstinance groups which are working to make it so that drug addicts must get high only when with one other specific addict. The point is: the amount of pleasure from sex does not mean it should be limited to only one person.

It is obvious that Free Love is not unethical at all. The arguments used against it are often brought from amidst the contradictory pages of the Bible or from some other profane source. There will still be those who assert that you can get all you need from only one sex partner and that multiple sexual partners are unnecessary. There may be those who assert that one partner is all you need. And there will be those who still assert that a one-on-one sexual relationship based on the principles of monogamy will last longer than any friendship. It is often stipulated by monogamists that Free Lovers choose to have more sexual partners for the sole reason that they are more sexually active. Such a stereotype is flagrantly foolhearty and ignorant. Free Love is about the freedom of expression. If someone can express their lust with lust, then why should they hold back? There will be bountiful amounts of monogamists who would hold back. It is a lack of expression. If you love someone, or if you're aroused, there is certainly no reason at all that you should prevent yourself from sex other than for practical reasons (such as lack of available contraceptives).

The Puritans would have considered holding hands to be non-monogamous when not in marriage. Certain Arabian cultures require that females be entirely covered head to toe because to look at another woman constitutes adultery. Even the Bible confirms it when it states: "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:27-29) The Bible never promised to grant freedom of conscience, and with this cruel moral, this "ethic" if it deserves such a title, restricts freedom of expression. If two individuals are close to each other as far as their character goes, then why should their bodies not be close? If a person loves another, then why refuse to look at each other, all for the sake of morality and sexual ethics? The reasons have always been disgusting: greed and dogma. Actually sexual penetration, kissing, touching, and looking have all been things which the army of cruelty and vice have restricted and limited. The cultures which strongly favored monogamy have also been the cultures which have been fond of viciousness and quick to be malicious in their behaviors. Physical expression was banned. To touch one's face affectionately, even if it was your own child, was considered perverted and demented. To share kindness and compassion through your body, by making others feel good about themselves, was ultimately considered evil. This is the foolishness that is monogamy: restrictiveness of expression.

Such expression is inappropriate, some will claim. The Puritan will say that if you touch the face of an individual, you are a sinner bound to hell by a cruel and vicious god. The Arabian Monogamist will say that if you look at another woman other than the wives in your harem, that the woman must be killed. And today, the modern Western Civilizationist Monogamist will say that if you have sex with an individual who is not your "significant other," then you are immoral and without values. The Right Wing political branch is always quick to spread false propaganda to express their contempt for Liberal ideas. All too often, their religious squabling is bent on controlling how other people live their own lives. The Puritans aggressively punished those who showed affection for each other publicly. Today, if a man is known for having many girlfriends, if he is a Free Lover, lies and slander will be spread about him like wildfire. Freedom of expression has never been the agenda of the Right Wing. Senator Comstock disallowed sexual content to be spread through the mail system. With the trial of Reynolds in the late Ninteenth Century, the legal system held blasphemy as illegal. In the Seventeenth Century, in the colonies, blasphemy was punishable by death. Oppression has been the only motive of the religious right. In the days when the government was entirely influenced by the corrupt officials who killed and tortured individuals because divine authorities ordered it, the Scarlett Letter was assigned to those who had committed adultery. Both men and women were property: both abused in either the system of African Slavery, Feudalism, or Wage Slavery. In this day, this era of abuse and greed, those governments which ordered their citizens to become monogamous were monsters of their time, incapable of knowing compassion, distant of justice, and beyond any reasonable knowledge of humaneness.

What constitutes adultery? If you were to ask a Western Civilizationist Monogamist, practically the majority of humans on this planet, you would be told that adultery is sexual activity which arouses the sex organs of any of the participants when they are committed to someone else. If you ask a Puritan, you would be told that simple touching is adultery. If you ask an Arabian Monogamist, you would be told that seeing any skin of a woman that is not your wife is adultery. Down and down the lines of various monogamist cultures, and the same basic principle is set: expression of affection and love is banned. From tracing the ethics of various monogamist cultures, any intelligent person would believe that the most monogamist culture would be one which banned the emotion of compassion and did not tolerate the existence of affection at all. For who could stand to live under a government which did not permit you to touch the faces of your most loved ones, except under the provision of such individual being your spouse? Who could live under such a tyrannical government which made it so that affection was only allowed between two who were in marriage? Those who are devoutly and uncompromisingly monogamous are the individuals who would enjoy this government.

Even if being a Free Lover means I will be less sexually active than being monogamous, I will absolutely choose the position of a Free Lover. I value my freedom over pleasure. And for myself to know that I can be as kind, compassionate, welcoming, and soothing, and to express myself physically, to express myself freely, is a right I hold to be undeniable.

AMSEL: The name everyone knows

Richard Amsel was a famous movie poster artist whose works include posters for some of the most famous movies of the 70's and 80's. His iconic movie posters are regarded today as works of art.

Even though Richard Amsel passed away 24 years ago, his artwork is still some of the most recognizable in the world. Fan from every corner of the earth salivate at the sight of some of his more famous work, while others have stood the test of time on their own merit of just being some of the most well-crafted pieces of art out there. One wouldnt expect such attention to be put into a movie poster, but that is exactly what Amsel did. Now, his name is as world-renowned as some of the movies that inspired him.

Amsels exhibit at the Rosewald-Wolf Gallery in the Anderson building at the University of the Arts, showcases some of his best and least known works: from the Coal Miners Daughter, to MadMax, to a whole room devoted to Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Some pieces, like his first poster for Hello Dolly which he made while he was still a student at the University of the Arts, then the Philadelphia College of Art, only contain the finished print. The room devoted to Raiders however covers many of his drafts and revisions, showcasing the long and arduous process that he went through to make the perfect and now iconic poster.

Unfortunately, if you expect to see anything from the 1974 film, Chinatown, dont hold your breath. Its clear who the audience is at this exhibit, and its not the true appreciators of art. The poster for Chinatown is reminiscent of a Mucha painting, with a hint of old French advertising artwork, and is by far one of his timeless pieces. Yet, it seemed that the curators were looking to bring in the masses, and not necessarily showcase what most consider a work that speaks for itself.

Richard Amsels career spanned almost two decades, from what some consider the heyday of cinema in the 70s, until its demise in the 1980s; his life also seems to mirror this trend. While he was still a senior at the Philadelphia College of Art, he won a poster contest run by 20th Century Fox, which propelled him into art stardom. He seemed to be on top for a good ten years until he contracted HIV in the 80s. This led to his untimely death at the age of 38, in 1985.

Like many great artists, Richard Amsel died before his time, but also left a legacy that those in his medium never achieved. His name is forever engrained in the collective minds of the public, maybe without them even knowing it.

Director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti is known for his unique story lines and out-of-the-box films. Re-introducing Mohanlal to Telugu film industry in a full fledged role, he has come up with an unique project called Manamantha. Also starring Gautami as the female lead, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Manamantha is based on the lives of four different individuals. Sairam(Mohanlal) is a simple assistant manager in a supermarket who is eagerly looking to climb up the success ladder in his job.

Gayatri (Gautami) is a down-to-earth housewife who finds happiness in straightforward things and is always looking out for her friends and family members.

Abhiram (Viswant Duddumpadi) is an intelligent college student who has big aims in life and always helps others around him.

Mahita (Raina Rao) is a cute schoolgirl who watches out for others before thinking about herself. How the lives of these four characters change in a matter of a few days with an interesting incident forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:-

The biggest plus point of Manamantha is the plot that the film revolves around. Chandra Sekhar Yeleti takes extra care to make sure it never bores the audience. He cleverly turns a family drama into an entertaining and unique thriller.

Even through the story line is simple, the screenplay changes the game and twists are introduced periodically. Another positive for the film is the near perfect casting. Mohanlal is a treat to watch and gets into the skin of his character with ease. His emotions and body language are splendid in the film.

Gautami proves yet again why she used to be the best in the business and is sublime as the housewife. Another actor who impresses is Viswant of Kerintha fame. He portrays his character well and is a talent to watch out for in the future.

Debutante Raina Rao as the schoolgirl is a surprise and walks away with all the applause. The way the suspense is maintained throughout the film and how all the story lines come together at the end was handled excellently.

Minus Points:-

The biggest down point of Manamantha is the cinematography. A movie carrying such a beautiful story line needs to have some gripping camera work. Visuals are not up to the mark and give the film just an okay effect.

Also, since the characters do not meet till the end of the film, fans might be a little disappointed. Abhiram’s characterisation could have been a little tighter. Anisha Ambrose’s role needed more clarity.

Technical Aspects:-

Being a Sai Korrapati film, the production values are splendid. Background music by Mahesh is impressive. Editing is apt and the different story lines have been woven nicely through an interesting screenplay. Dialogues are excellent.

Coming to director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti, he once again proves that he has ample amount of talent and this is clearly visible with Manamantha. The way he took a simple story line and made it thrilling is just amazing. He also excelled in extracting the best performance from his actors.

Verdict:-

On the whole, Manamantha is a unique family thriller which impresses you completely. Movies like these are rare to come by and when they do, they are a treat to watch. The near perfect casting who gets into the skin of their characters is seamless and undoubtedly the greatest asset for the film. It would be really interesting to see how the commercial audience lap up a serious film like this. Finally, Manamantha is a movie which can be enjoyed thoroughly. Go for it.

• Due to their compact size and light weight, optical disks are easy to handle, store, and port from one place to another.
• Music CDs can be played on a computer having a CD-ROM drive along with a sound board and speakers. This allows computer systems to be also used as music systems, whenever desired.

You still occasionally get music on CDs—as gifts or when you buy them directly from the artist at a concert. And when you do get an audio CD, the first thing you want to do with it is rip it to MP3s.

But also many find this to be not as straight forward as they thought. With the movie, "The Secret" the Law of Attraction has been brought out and embraced by many, but the movie actually is just a basic introduction on the Law of Attraction not a full blown 'how to' course.

Unfortunately many are left thinking that all they need to do is think their way into any success or new life experience. Managing your thinking is a large part of how you make changes but not all there is to it. It does not help that some teachers just do focus on the changing of your thought without delving any deeper. This basic part of The Law of Attraction deals with only your conscious thought, but does not get into the power your unconscious thought holds over your everyday thinking, feeling and behavior.

One of the major factors that come into play when you are trying to change your thinking is with your unconscious thinking, and most importantly your beliefs. You have deep seated beliefs that have been established, mostly without your awareness, and are an integral part of your automatic operating system. These beliefs are how you have chosen to view yourself, the world, other people and everything that goes on around you. How you see everything, how you react to it and the actions you take are greatly regulated by a set of beliefs.

Now, you are probably aware of some of your beliefs, but just because you can't describe them all does not mean they are not there. Many people either are not aware of the extent of these beliefs or they choose to ignore them hoping they can override them with changing their conscious thought, it usually doesn't happen this way.

One of the beliefs that can have a profound affect on you relates to your ability to make changes. If you have been having difficulty making any changes you may be being blocked by your beliefs related to your ability to change or have anything better. Your beliefs are locked in to your automatic unconscious operating system, so everything you think is filtered through those resident beliefs. You can't fool them or bypass them.

Here are some key questions to ask yourself, and you may know the answers by some feelings you've had without knowing exactly why you have had them.

* Do you believe you can instigate change in your life or is that up to someone or something else?

* Do you believe you are worthy of the changes you say you want?

If you can answer yes to either or both of these questions or you have a strong feeling that you can, you have beliefs that support those ideas. Giving those questions some deep thought, you should know if they are true for you, as you will likely have had related feelings in several areas of your life.

Here's the bottom line, your thoughts and beliefs will determine the outcome of your efforts. The difference is that your conscious thoughts are visible to you and the unconscious is not. And the unconscious patterns such as beliefs have been verified and confirmed many times in your life, these are 'known facts' to your unconscious mind.

Day in and day out, these beliefs are there to filter and direct your thoughts, feelings and actions with regard to the specific belief. As you follow the direction of these automatic beliefs you are further validating them, thus providing them with more proof and power within your overall collection of thoughts.

All the efforts you want to make to changing your life will go in vain if you hold a belief that you can't instigate change, that you are unworthy of the change you want, or that you must wait for it to be done to you or for you. If this is the case with you, you will need to address this belief before you can have, do or be anything different from what you experience right now. Your current experience is the result of your thinking, which includes your beliefs. Your current life experience is the evidence of what caused it.

So, if you have not been able to change after much effort, there is a reason. Some thought patterns are preventing it and it's most likely unconscious beliefs. You can actually believe anything you want, you just need to know that you can and that you can alter the existing beliefs if you choose.

Your continued personal growth and self realization depends on a firm belief that you can instigate change yourself, and that all the power in the universe will support your thoughts just as it does the commands contained in a small seed The only difference is that you can change your thought, but the seed must stick with what it came with.

Story:-

Basavanna (Upendra) is a Brahmin boy who does not believe in the basic formalities of everyday life. He is from a family of priests who are the ancestral care takers of a prestigious temple. What ever the important task temple must undergo one of the family of Basavanna accomplished.Twist in the tale arises when the father of Basavanna dies and he is forced to take the priest's duty in the temple. Just when Bavsanna takes things in hand, a meticulous murder attack is planned on him that survives intelligently.Why target Basavanna? What is the story behind this animosity? and how can he deal with all this chaos forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-

First half of the film has good feelings. Upendra how shifts gears and takes his family problems, all those things were very well presented. The transformation of Upendra in a priest is shown in a wonderful way.As usual, Upendra is at its best more spiritual and mouths unique dialogues. It is especially good that the priest and this wonderful body language also raises his heroism. Saloni is decent in what ever role it has obtained. Ragini Dwivedi provides the necessary eye candy.

Minus Points:-

After a promising first half, the entire second half going for a draw. The movie changes and track aspects like the Mafia, terrorism and intelligence services take place before the procedure and disappointed big time.Emotions, fighting and unnecessary scenes presented in this side of time follow the film and also irritate the public. Yet another draw back of the film is the villain Ravi Shankar. There is not where the truth to his role and gives a disappointing performance. In addition, the Telugu dubbing is a huge disappointment.

Technical Aspects:-

Surprisingly, the music of Mani Sharma is quite disappointing. The background score is an even greater disaster that Mani has copied some of his old tunes for this film. The assembly is very poor and so was the camera work. Coming to the Director Srinivasa Raju, even if he chose a decent story, its performance is pathetic. Just after the first half, the nose of the film plunges like Srinivas steering lack focus and clarity in one scene to the end.

Verdict:-

Like all movies of Upendra, even Brahmin has a premise and a note worthy interesting performances by the Kannada star. But it is the second half pathos tracks completely disrupts the film and the display for the public. All who love the movie Upendra can give this film a fair shot for an interesting first half and can work once this is done.
