This movie has already been reviewed ad nauseum and for the purpose of this article it is entirely irrelevant whether I personally liked it or not. Besides, anyone and their grandma calls themselves a critic nowadays so Im not joining the ranks on this sole principle.

Even if you should have just returned from 40 days of fasting in the middle of desert you would have heard of the most commercially successful movie ever filmed.The Dark Knight broke box office records and set new highs in the world of commercial filmography. Everyone seems to have gone to see The Dark Knight, everyone seems to have written their "review" over at IMDB and everyone seems to have given it 10 out of 10 stars rating. It almost seemed as though the crowds were hypnotized and any rating other than 10 was not even an option.

I've been trying hard to think of anything more irritating than seemingly blindfolded fanboys who religiously repeat their "the best movie of the year" or "the best of all time" chants every time they get a chance and I couldn't. This ludicrous overhyping and overrating of a single picture created a force that resulted in a counterforce. Whether you call it the cause and effect phenomenon, or Newton's third law of motion, the outcome is clear. For many people The Dark Knight Sucks. The movie is good - it's not great, but it's not a complete failure either.

If you enter "The Dark Knight Sucks" into Google search engine, you will get over 3 million results. Why would so many people react with utter underrating of a movie thats actually pretty decent? Your answer is above. One extreme calls for another. If one extremist labels it "the best movie ever", the other one responds with "The Dark Knight Sucks".

I can imagine some of those people who gave The Dark Knight 1 or 2 star out of 10 on IMDB, would have otherwise given it 6 or 7 stars, because even if they particularly didn't like it, they didn't really think it was that bad. But to balance out the madness started by the overhyping crowd, the opposing party let themselves heard by blatant underrating. Oh the irony Why make it such a big deal? It's just the movie!

Movie Review - Ikiru

Ikiru, translated "To Live", is the masterpiece of the great Japanese filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa. It is very different from the Samurai films for which he is most famous in the West, but it is undoubtedly one of the greatest films ever committed to celluloid.

Produced in 1952, Ikiru tells the story of Kanji Watanabe (Takeshi Shimura), a civil servant who, as the film begins, discovers that he has stomach cancer, and only 6 months to live. His life has been defined by his job, one of soul-sucking monotony and inefficient bureaucracy. Kurosawa demonstrates just how ineffective this bureaucracy is by an amusing scene early in the film, where a group of women petition the department of public affairs to clean up a stagnant pool in their neighborhood. They are shunted from public affairs to engineering, and then further up the bureaucracy, until, eventually, they end up back where they began, having accomplished nothing.

The plight of these women in many ways parallels the life of Mr. Watanabe, who has dedicated himself fully to the bureaucracy. Indeed, he has not missed a single day of work in nearly 30 years, and yet, he realizes, he too has accomplished nothing. Watanabes son is ungrateful of the sacrifices his father has made, though the film points out that the son never asked for them. Mr. Watanabes life is empty and sad, and it is only through the revelation that he is dying, that he is able to truly live for the first time.

He goes out for a night on the town, with the help of a curious stranger who is willing to help him learn to spend his money. A young woman co-worker, who needs his seal so that she can resign, unknowingly helps him continue his journey. Watanabe admires her zest for life just looking at her "warms him up" - and he desires more than anything to understand how to live as she does before he dies.

Takeshi Shimura, a long time Kurosawa collaborator provides a nuanced and touching performance as Watanabe, far removed from his most famous role as Kambei, in Seven Samurai. Indeed, Shimura is able to effectively conveying not only the characters physical pain, but also his emotional pain, and Mr. Watanabes transition from broken despair to a hopeful sense of purpose is entirely believable and engrossing.

As one would expect from a master filmmaker such as Kurosawa, the film is beautifully shot, and the storytelling is impeccable as the director deftly uses a series of flashbacks to tell his story. The pace is very deliberate and ponderous, but never boring.

Akira Kurosawa is certainly one of the great directors in the history of cinema, and he made many more films throughout his career. Many of those films were great in themselves, but Ikiru, with its touching and poignant story, and skilled storytelling, is truly his masterpiece.

Young hero Prince has been trying hard to survive in the game and is back with yet another youthful flick Marala Telupana Priya. The film which is directed by Vani has hit the screen today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:-

Vaishu(Yoma Nandi) is a spoilt brat who keeps partying with her friends and does not listen to her parents’ advice of getting married. One fine day, she meets a handsome music director named Krishna(Prince) and falls head over heels for him.

When things seem to be going just fine between them, Krishna goes missing all of a sudden. What will Vaishu do now ? What happened to Krishna ? What is this sudden twist in the romantic tale ? To know all the answers, watch the film on the big screen.

Plus Points:-

Yoma Nandi is one of the biggest assets of the film. She walks away with all the applause and does supremely well in her character. Her role gave a lot of scope for her to perform and Yoma pulls it off with ease. She was superb as the rich spoilt brat and also showed her versatility as the desperate lover during the second half.

Romantic scenes designed between the lead pair during the first half are decent. Interval bang is okay and elevates the film decently. Some scenes which showcase heroine’s search for the hero have been designed well.

Minus Points:-

Illogical narration is the biggest drawback of the film. The romantic moments and heart touching emotions between the lead pair are completely missing in this film. Even though, the film starts off on a interesting note, things falls apart as the film progress into the second part.

Logic goes for a toss in many scenes and so many important factors are unexplained. Certain scenes regarding hero’s memory loss look silly and over the top. The film is wrapped up in a hurry making things go haywire.

Technical Aspects:-

Shekhar Chandra’s music is impressive. Editing by Martand K Venkatesh is below par as many illogical scenes could have been easily removed. Production values are okay and so were the dialogues. Coming to the director Vani, she has done a decent job for her first film. The way she has etched out the heroine’s character and story looks quite experienced. She gives importance to her female character and showcases that how strong are women folks during this day and age. Credit should go to her for showcasing the heroine in such a pwerful role.

Verdict:-

For every love story to click, the feel good factor and romantic emotions are a must. But sadly for Marala Telupana Priya, none of these feelings exist and the film ends up as a painful watch. Except for Yoma Nandi’s sincere performance, this film has nothing much to offer this weekend. Look out for something else.

story:

The story is based on a real life incident that happened in Mangalore, Karnataka. A group of six friends go hiking in the dense forest and disappear one after another. A friend of the group, takes these incidents on the camera which is then recovered by police. The film showcases images of how group members die one after another.

Plus Points: -

major advantage of the film is how the incident of real life is presented in a cinematic way. All scenes executed in the dense forest have been designed quite interesting. Some sitcom that occurs during the group travel is decent. Some spooky scenes in the second half are pretty decent.Second half of the film is a bit racy compared to the first. Many things happen during this period and the film draws a certain rhythm. All the actors did a decent job in their roles. The places of the dense forest are shown quite beautifully. Shivers in the second half are well executed. How some of the dead are performed is pretty scary.

Negative points: -

major drawback of the film is the lack of enough thrills. All elements are presented exciting about right and do not create an element of surprise. First half of the film is quite boring as the story begins during the interval.Lack of familiar faces will be a problem to get the crowd theaters. The voice in the movement said that the scenes presented in the film is the film itself, which is very hard to believe. Each scene was re-shot and gets predictable after a point.Even if the release of the film length is bright, things are moving at a snail's pace. It is only during the last half hour that the real film is set. The human character who is saved at the end is unclear.

Technical aspects:-

Camerawork in the film is realistic and well executed. How decision makers have gone to communicate visually exciting look to the naked eye. selected locations are mind blowing as the dense forests were captured very effectively. background score is good and elevates the film to a decent level. Director Ramesh has adapted a real incident in the life of a cinematic way. If he could have added a bit more excitement, the result could have been much better.

Verdict:-

Overall, Chitram Kadu Nijam is yet another suspense mean that some times of engagement. A second half racy, interesting camerawork and some spooky elements create an impact. On the other hand, a bore and rushed to loot the first half of the flow of the film. All those who love horror thriller with a unique theme can give this film a shot, and the rest can take it easy and wait until it comes on TV.

At about the same time, Regina is known about the failed romance of James, and it grows too much respect for her husband.About this time, Regina receives an offer to work in Australia for a while. Plus points:

Arya has done a good job in this film. Jai is good too naive and innocent executive Surya call center. Nayanathara look beautiful saris and gave a great performance in this film. His scenes are funny and endearing Jai.Nazriya has an important role in the second half and it made a very good impression. Telugu film directors and film producers should be wary of this talented actress. Santhanam in the film entertains with funny lines marks. Sathyaraj is good that the father of Nayantara.The film has some beautiful moments of emotion as the scene where Arya request Nayantara telephone number and another example where they discover their love for each other in the climax. The film of dull moments throughout the length and they take the shine out of the film. None of the players barring Nayanathara are popular in Andhra Pradesh and this will affect the film to some extent.Even the comedy sequences and some scenes have a Tamil meaning and they can not work for our viewers. The songs are a big drawback for the film. entertainment levels are also very low. The screenplay format could be a bit cool, but the overall story and the climax are fairly old and well known concepts.Jai is triggered in the US for cabin crew training, but is then presented as a customs official. What happened?

Technical aspects :

Cinematography is nice and pleasant. The assembly is not up to the mark as there is a lot of unnecessary boring scenes in the first half of the film. Dialogues are so very good, especially for a dubbing film.Atlee very promising as a director and this is just his first film. He treated the film very well for a newcomer.

Verdict:

'Raja Rani' is a decent love story that is released by the sometimes slow pace and some boring times. The film may appeal to multiplex crowds and public, but it will not find much traction in the centers B and C. You can give this film a hit as a onetime watch.

Bollywood needs to figure out its definition of a teaser. Almost 2 minutes long, you'd think the Desi Boyz first look promo would qualify as a theatrical trailer, but the makers would like us to believe it's just a teaser.

If this one has to lead to a more elaborate promo (which is why it is called a teaser in the first place), how much longer would that be?

The Desi Boyz teaser has the voice of Sanjay Dutt introducing audiences to the characters of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, who are mostly shown strutting around in suits, and striking cool poses. "Ladies and Ladkiyan, pull out the cash for the desi lovers," says the promo, followed by a shot of money being thrown at the two, as they dance around women. Are they gigolos? Love gurus? Or just casanovas? Deepika Padukone is the only other actor clearly visible in the promo, while you catch just a little glimpse of Chitrangadha Singh.

Desi Boyz is the directorial debut of Rohit Dhawan, who is David Dhawan's son. The film, though, looks much more polished, and better on the Production Values front, than any old or recent David Dhawan film (if you've watched any promo of Rascals, you will agree). It looks more like a Karan Johar film than one from David Dhawan's school of filmmaking, and that helps Rohit make a decent first impression. The promo's well cut, has a catchy tune and is pleasing to the eye.

But will the cool quotient of the teaser translate into any real entertainment? Or will Desi Boyz end up as another brainless, forgettable comedy? We'll find out on November 25th, when the film releases.

Production:

Desi Boyz started filming on 7 November 2010, and completed shooting in May 2011. The film was to feature Sonam Kapoor as the lead actress, but she declined the film. There were also rumours of the film being offered to Anushka Sharma, but she denied this. Eventually, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangda Singh were finalised as the female leads. Padukone will be seen opposite John Abraham for the first time and Singh will star opposite Akshay Kumar in her first commercial venture.
