Lingaa (Rajinikanth) is a small time thief who leads a carefree life. One day, Lakshmi (Anushka) of public television meets Lingaa and asked him to inaugurate an ancient temple built by his grandfather. Lingaa rejects his proposal, saying he is not interested in knowing his grandfather that left him in poverty. Soon, he was involved in a theft scam and he accepted the proposal of Lakshmi, to escape the police. He goes to his village with Lakshmi.
Once it lands there, coming off a heartbreaking story of his family. What does it know truths about his family? What is the story behind the temple? To find answers to these questions, you need to watch the movie on the big screen.

Plus Points: -

As always, Lingaa is again a complete Rajini show all the way. From the word go, it's Rajni and his presence in the pure screen that takes you through the film. Rajini excels in all departments, and carries the entire film on his shoulders. It is superb as the royal heir in the second half, and is especially good in the emotional scenes.While Sonakshi Sinha has not much to do in the film, she debuted south decent. Sonakshi looks good as the beautiful village and made his role sincerely.Anushka is apt for the role and complements Rajini during the first half. The film's production values are superb, as the entire second half and all scenes related to the construction of the dam were made abundantly.The first half of the film is entertaining, and has all necessary commercial elements.

Minus Points: -

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film's excessive length. The episode flashback in the second half takes forever to finish making quite tedious. The history during this time has been stretched, and go into too many details that are not necessary at all. At least 20 minutes of the film could have easily cut.Yet another drawback is that Rajini dialogues trademarks or thrills we regularly associate with him missing in this film.
Second half is quite predictable, and not a lot of surprises. There is absolutely no entertainment in this part of the film works on a serious and emotional mode.
The music of AR Rahman is below par, because none of the tracks fail to register.

Technical aspects:-

As said before, the film's production values are excellent. Manufacturers do not compromise on the presentation of their film on a lavish scale, and spent a lot of money that shows on the screen. The era before independence and visual meanwhile were designed quite brilliantly. Camerawork is superb and above all scenes that showcase the dam were shot well.
written dialogues for Rajini are below par, and the script takes a beating during the second half. Director K Ravi Kumar S has managed to develop the film on a large scale, but went into too much detail and stretchered film unnecessarily. As a result, he lost the good storytelling and could not integrate a lot of entertainment in the film.Anushka is apt for the role and complements Rajini during the first half. Verdict:-

With Lingaa, it is once again proved that the fans love the presence of Rajini screen and completely love it. Entertaining first half and a rocking performance by Rajini are the major assets. But a long and dull booty second half the fun completely. Finally, if you are a fan of Rajini will appreciate the film. Otherwise, go in without expectations.

Rather, the movie has spent much time and effort on all aspects of commercialisms in terms of the cast, entertainment, glamour, songs etc.

To some, having a good story or plot might be the most important thing to look out for in a film. Perhaps not too much of it should be expected, since the purpose of a movie is meant to entertain in various ways (acting, glamour, music, cinematography, video editing etc) apart from a good storyline. If people were to keep expecting just good stories from movies, they might as well read a good novel instead.

Then again, the director should not have neglected the story so much to the extent that critics come up with endless lists to highlight all the flaws which are so apparent throughout the movie.

Story:

As mentioned before, the story is not really paid attention to. A mysterious their, who calls himself Mr. A (Hrithik Roshan), goes literally around the world stealing priceless items in highly sophisticated ways. The purpose of his behaviour is not explained. A hot pursuit by an ACP, Assistant Commissioner of Police (played by Abhishek Bachan), then follows and along the way, Mr. A finds himself a voluntary partner Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai) whom he later finds out that she is sent to spy on him. She finds out later that she has fallen for him in a typical Bollywood fashion and joins hands with him after that.

The star appeal of each actor has been highlighted through their respective introductory scenes which may seem unnecessary to most viewers. In fact, most of the scenes are unnecessary but that is because story is not the focus of this movie at all.

Screenplay:

Fun and entertainment are primarily the main attention in this movie. This movie is taken in a rather commercially appealing way right from the start till the very end. Probably this is where its success is attributed to.

Eye candy supplied by Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu are part of the fun factor which is simply meant to divert the audiences attention from wondering what the story is about.

Uday Chopra is the main entertainment factor as he does his comic antics to keep a smile on the audiences faces.

Cinematography:

Cinematography is awesome. Every robbery scene is well taken care by the camera angles and shots.

Video Editing:

Video editing is quite well done, even though more of it could be implemented since the movie is done purely for entertainment.

About Notting Hill
