What IS it with L.A. actresses and self mutilation ?

When actresses get silicone lips, the resulting trout pout ruins the movie for this writer. A curmudgeonly response to being asked to deny the evidence of one's own eyes.

Yet another movie was ruined for me this week by the inflated lips of the leading actress. I cannot take any character seriously who has paid someone to inject who knows what into her lips, inflating them until she cannot close her mouth or properly enunciate. I need a back-story to explain why the character made that utterly bizarre choice, why she is a woman of low self esteem and high ambition.

I understand why the actress did it, the pressure to conform to some mythological photographable archetype is very strong in Hollywood. More and more men and women are succumbing. Hair plugs for men, weaves, cheek implants , false chins, dental veneers, on top of nose bobs, hair dyes, skin peels. If youve got the money and the time and its important to you - sure go ahead. But when actors DO do it, they have lost me forever. Every role they play is for me a resident of planet Hollywood no matter how much the writer, director or the other cast members try to suggest otherwise.

Years ago, though I had enjoyed Pat Conroys book, when I watched the movie version of Prince of Tides, I could not get over Barbra Streisands manicure to get to her pivotal part in the story. It completely held me outside her characterization of the intellectual and empathetic therapist. I KNOW how long it takes to have nails like that, how much it costs, how unnatural they are, how vain it is, how useless those long false attachments make ones hands. No intellectual do-gooder could consider it time well spent . Ruined the film for me. And that was just a manicure.

Cosmetic facial alteration has become so commonplace in a certain sector of America that what might have been called ghouls fifty years ago are now commonly presenting on television or acting in the programs and movies. If people feel the need to present a false face to themselves and the world, that is their right I suppose. I dont understand it myself. But forever after, whatever role they play will be changed by that decision.

Dont producers and directors notice how weird they look, how unlike the rest of us humans who still have the old fashioned skin and bones we were born with?

Selfie Raja Movie Review and Rating

'Selfie Raja' could have been a better product with the appropriate script and narration. Now we have a half-baked product. The movie is filled with some hilarious comedy at times and sometimes they are annoying.

Story:

Allari Naresh who delivered series of failures, badly needs a hit and tried to make a come back with a different kind of comedy. The film got released today and we'll see how the film is shot. Allari Naresh (selfie Raja) is a happy man who marries will Kamna Ranaut is Police Commissioner daughter (Nagineedu). Like his Father-In-Law has personal problems with a criminal in his professional life, the criminal gets revenge and creates problems in married life selfie Raja. It breaks married life. A selfie upheaval Raja decides to end his life. He hires a hit man to shoot him. But the twist occurs when the contract killer made larger than kill selfie Raja plans. What is his plan? Why he never killed? What happened to his marriage life? Attention to the silver screen.

Star Performance:

Allari Naresh decided to cement his strong, 'Comedy Genre'. He clearly made the decision what to do and what not to do. He was completely honest in his character and in fact, he succeeded with his body language. But with a wafer thin screenplay he failed again. Ravi Babu who made role Killer contract is crazy. Its role is neither stupid nor serious. It was completely left halfway. Surprisingly, Kamna Ranaut has solid debut. Apart from glamorous, it worked well too. It can be a good actress with the right choice of films in the future. Shakalaka Shankar and his snake comedy is something to celebrate. The rest of the cast has done justice to their roles. But unfortunately none of them remain in our mind the moment we walk in the theater. This also includes Nagineedu!

Techinical Team

G.Eshwer Reddy has weak leadership and failed to control the narrative. Obviously, he lost it as he was forced to stuff comedies and unwanted songs. Each song is an obstacle to the peak flow of the story. Forced comic episodes not even evoke smile on our faces. Scenario is even more pathetic. Things go haywire and the whole movie is like watching commercials during the movie break. Inexperience was completely obvious. Dialogues are witty and they are the backbone of the film. The music of Sai Kartheek is below par. In fact, the songs act as barricades. Furthermore there is no linear narrative between the first half and the second half. The production values are good. But everything falls flat when things become pathetic scenario. Cinematography was clean and simple. Nothing more to boast.

Release date : November 27, 2015

AuthorRating : 3 /5

Director : Ram Mohan P

Producer : Ram Mohan P

Music Director : Sunny MR

Starring : Avika Gor, Santosh Sobhan

The teasers and promotions of Tanu Nenu created a decent buzz for the film. Starring debutante Santosh Shoban and Avika Gor, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story: -

Kiran (Santosh Shobhan) is an employee of call center that hates America and NRI culture. One day he comes across Keerthi (Avika Gor) and falls for her. As time passes, even Keerthi approves his love and the couple spend some happy times together. On the other hand, the father of Keerthi (Ravi Babu) is a cunning man who dreams of sending his daughter to the United States for the big bucks. Twist in the tale arises when he decides to get his daughter married to an NRI.What is Kiran doing now? How could he stop Keerthi to leave the United States? Why Kiran hate America? For answers to these questions, you need to watch the movieon the big screen.

Plus Points: -

Santosh Shobhan impresses with its first film. The young actor highlights the good emotions and is also good in the comedy department. His dialogue delivery is neat and so well planned, it can go a long way in his career.Avika Gor is also good in the film. His chemistry with Santosh is decent as the pair look quite convincing on screen. First half of the film is quite fresh with an interesting range points.Friendship path between youth and NRI relationships were presented needs a special mention. While Ravi Babu is good, his role was brief.

Negative points: -

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film was the lack of emotion in the second half. After finishing the first half with quite an interesting range shot, sending the loose Director of the procedure in a stupid way. There are some scenes and situations in the second half which is a huge disappointment. In addition, the way the character Ravi Babu is finished and emotions presented after this incident immature.entertainment value is slightly lower in the second part. Nenu Tanu will appeal only to youth and multiplexes.

Technical aspects:-

Music by Sunny M R is decent and so was his background score. written dialogues and satires executed on the NRI culture were well written. Scenario is decent in the first half but wobbles slightly during the second half. The film's production values are very good. Although the film is made on a small budget entirely, camera and art work make the film a rich look.Coming to the director Ram Mohan, he did a pretty decent job for his first film. He chose a novel line of history and sets it up in age and present situations well. Ram even managed to develop a decent love story and extract good performance from its starting players. But the only place where it is through the second half that is pretty poor. he had taken care of that part, the result would have been even better.

Verdict:-

Overall, Nenu Tanu is an original love story that will appeal to the youth and the public multiplex for most. The simple and clean film content and impressive performances by the lead pair are certain assets. That said, the film is let down a little because of a poor second half and ends just watch ok this weekend.

Books, Trend-spotting & the Gubernatorial Race

Ok I admit it. I'm a Californian. We live in shorts, we dine at juice bars and our politics are nothing short of, well, a Hollywood movie. If you've been shaking your head wondering how someone with a narrow political background could be elected to a state boasting on of the 10th largest economy in the world, join the club. That, my fellow savvy book promoters, is a campaign we could all learn from.

Schwarzenegger is a guy who, while being well-known in the movie world, is far less well-known in politics. During campaigning, he carefully avoided addressing issues Californians wanted to hear about. Nor did he ever stand on any one particular political platform. So, how did he win? He found a need and filled it. With recent indicators showing Californians leaving the Golden State at alarming numbers, we desperately needed a boost.

Schwarzenegger's media team saw a need and filled it with an action hero who vowed to "terminate" traditional politics. Whether you believe Arnold will be a good governor or not, you have to admit he ran one heck of an amazing campaign.

While most of us can't afford the pro team Arnold could, we can still effect changes in our book promotion campaigns that will turn the tide in our favor. It's called trend-spotting. Many people make their living trend-spotting, and you can do the same thing with a few clicks on the web. Take a look at http://buzz.yahoo.com/ or http://50.lycos.com/. You want to anticipate a need and fill it.

To stay ahead of the trends, our team at Authors Services spends considerable time brainstorming recent issues and how they'll affect various areas of our everyday life. These emerging trends are what we focus on as we prepare or launch a campaign.

If you're planning to write a book or preparing to work on your book promotion, take some time to study trends in your area of expertise. How will these trends look twelve or twenty-four months from now? How will that affect book sales down the road? For example:

Escapism: the new vacation. Many of us no longer have time for two week vacations. Instead, we're opting for one day outings and novels to give us that quick "out" when we need it. Does your book provide a mini-vacation for readers?

What do a down-sized engineer named Dilbert and a slightly built Keebler-elf sort of character by the name of Clay Aiken have in common? They're both chart-toppers. Many have called this the revenge of the nerds. How will this affect your next book?

Trend spotter Faith Popcorn recently said that time is becoming more valuable than money. People would rather spend money to have more time. The effect? More home delivered goods, and more consumer conveniences. How can your book address this trend?

And finally... We're hearing more about "Politainers" these days: entertainers turned politicians. Are they serious politicians or figureheads? How will this affect the future of politics? Planning a political novel? George Clooney for President!

If your topic doesn't have a trendy angle, create one. Figure out which part of the trend you can grab onto and do that. Again, find a need and fill it. Keep your subject matter, book or PR campaign topical, trendy, and hip. That's what we did with this story. After all, who would have thought book promotion and a governor's race would have had anything in common?

Happy trend-spotting!

Making Money Online and the Willing Suspense of Disbelief

Without the willing suspense of disbelief the great white shark in Jaws would just be a movie prop. To find out that has to do with avoiding internet money making scams read on...

Why do people who want to make money online, fall for scams and crazy schemes they wouldn't even think of entertaining in the "real" bricks and mortar world? I've seen a few reasons offered in response to this question. A lot of people put it down to greed and I daresay there is a fair bit of that about. It is also suggested that many of the people who are searching for a way to make money online are desperate and it is sheer desperation that makes them vulnerable. Some people blame the effectiveness of online advertising, and a well-written sales letter can go an awfully long way to persuading a reader to act against his better judgment. It is sometimes suggested that people see the Internet as a different kind of reality and that makes them prone to doing things they would not otherwise consider.

My personal feeling is that a combination of all those reasons is often what makes normally sensible people abandon reason and fall for an Internet scam or some kind of doubtful online money making scheme. I have never forgotten studying English Literature at university and learning about the concept of the "willing suspense of disbelief". That's the thing that enables us to enjoy watching a drama or reading a novel; we know it is just a made-up story and the characters aren't real but, in order to get full enjoyment out of the experience, we willingly suspend our disbelief and allow the characters and their dramas to be real to us. This ability to suspend aspects of the way we think is played upon by copywriters who target people looking for ways to make money online.

If we were not willing to believe (at least for 90 minutes or so) that the hero in the latest action movie is a real person, we would not enjoy the movie to any great extent. A good storyline, great scenery and impressive special effects do not make a gripping movie. All of these things would be wasted if we did not believe in the characters. It is only when we care about or identify with the characters that the movie successfully moves, interests or excites us.

If you think about some of the greatest movies of all time, you will know what I mean. Take Gone With The Wind: this is only a compelling movie if we believe (for the duration of the movie) that Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler are real people. Without that belief and consequent interest in the fate of the characters, the storyline alone would not inspire generations of people to watch the movie over and over again. When you watch Jaws, you have to believe the characters are real and are in danger of being consumed by the (also real) shark; if you don't employ this belief, you won't enjoy the film because there would be no excitement in it for you. Whether you are viewing a love story, a "person in peril" situation or a fight for justice in a courtroom drama, the same thing applies: you must be willing to believe in the characters for the story to have meaning.

The human brain is a strange and complex mechanism which allows us to "turn off" aspects of thinking which are, in effect, integral parts of our personality. This suspense of disbelief is what enables children to enjoy games of imagination: if you ask a three-year old whether her teddy bear can really talk the reply will most probably be "of course not" but the knowledge that she is pretending, does not remove the child's enjoyment of games where teddy "talks" to her.

When you are looking for ways to make money online, don't allow your disbelief to be suspended willingly; hang on to your suspicions and cynicism, and remember the Internet is part of our world and not a parallel virtual reality or a movie set.

Fireplace Mantels That Set the Scene in Eight Classic Films

This is a fun article that movie lovers will enjoy as they take a walk down memory lane. It presents the authors perspective on the impact that the fireplace mantel has had on eight classic, well known and popular films.

The design of a fireplace can be linked interchangeably with the term home. Fireplace mantels come in different styles and silhouettes and Hollywood has taught us that fireplace mantels can be the most important character in the scene of a film.

The placement of a fireplace usually sets the mood by creating an expression of amour or by building up the suspense for tragedy. The fireplace is linked as Hollywoods ideal scene backdrop.

(1) Pa Bailey stated in Its a Wonderful Life that satisfying a fundamental urge, it's deep in the race for a man to want his own roof and walls and fireplace If you have ever seen this classic, you are well aware that the film is pure Americana and represents the true meaning of the American dream.

(2) Viewed as one of the greatest films of all time is Orson Welles Citizen Kane. This film is a perfect example of how fireplaces add an important role to landscape settings. The enormous Xanadu fireplace mantel, which appears to reach about 10 feet in height, is placed in several scenes throughout the movie, ominously indicative of Kanes loss. There are two scenes in this film where the fireplace emphasizes the plot and adds significance to the storyline. One is when the sled Rosebud is thrown into the fire because it is seen as junk. The second one is where you see the stilled image of Kanes portrait above the mantle dominating all the loneliness he surveys. These scenes add suspense and agony, perhaps even irony, not only affecting the characters in the film but also influencing the audience watching them.

(3) Fireplace mantels can create a romantic feel to the ambiance of a particular scene. Many are familiar with the classic episodes of Star Wars. In episode two, Attack of the Clones the films two major characters, Anakin and Padme, share a forbidden romance. The romance shared between the two come together in this one scene, which becomes an important facet in their love story. The scene illuminates the passion between Leia and Luke. Having the fireplace mantel in this scene creates a warm surrounding for the couple, thus adding to the elements of the plot.

(4) In the movie Titanic, the appearance of the fireplace mantel helps the setting by creating the representation of the upper class. The famous drawing scene is located in one of the upper level rooms. The fireplace is lit in the background and generates a darker light, which in turn glazes over both of the characters faces. This scene is one of the most important because it establishes the connection between both Rose and Jack when she asks Jack to paint her wearing only the necklace. Another scene within this film is towards the very end, where the architect of the ship stands in front of the fireplace looking at the clock and watching it move from one end to the other, realizing that there is no hope for the ship.

(5) The design of the fireplace mantels gives off a sense of plot in a movie whether adding a classic feeling decorated with dark mahogany or an eerie mood with a traditional finish. As illustrated in the movie The Birds nothing compares to the fireplace scene. The feeling of tragedy is lurking and the eerie design of the fireplace makes this scene extremely important to the storyline. The scene begins calmly with a conversation over tea and escalates to having a flock of irate birds swarming around them trying to attack.

(6) Most are aware of the supernatural film Beetle Juice that brought fear with laughter to young and old alike. The movie brings together both afterlife and the living structuring the storyline location within the home of the main characters. The home has a very quaint feeling to it, showing various points in the film in the living room where there is aged furniture and a rustic styled fireplace with a grimy mantle, giving off the sense of a ghostly presence. The importance of the setting adds to the ethereal sensation that the characters are in the company of ghosts.

(7) Along with the paranormal film mentioned above come others that possess the same sentiments such as the movie Young Frankenstein. Here, the fireplace is more deceiving than not and opens up a more mystical allusion. The fireplace mantel is actually hidden behind a bookshelf, which converts into a fireplace. The secret passages shown in the scenes carry out the spiritual and strange moods that are trying to be created from the plot.

(8) Meet the Parents may be one of a very few films that combines both humor and calamity. One of the most popular scenes presented is the one where Ben Stiller attempts to open a champagne bottle having the cork shatter the cremation urn that sits on top of the fireplace mantel. The urn instantly spills the remains of Grandma Brynes all over the carpeted floor, which instantaneously becomes the litter box for the family cat.

Fireplace mantels have a dcor far different from any other home furnishing. They add warmth and comfort giving that feeling of security. Fireplace mantels can also add a touch of sophistication and elegance if that is your preference. The addition of a fireplace mantel can finalize the ideal vision of how one may want their home to look like. It can transform a home from being dark and uninviting to a warm country getaway.

Such an addition also allows that extra touch of luxury to a household thus creating the perfect atmosphere for family gatherings. It helps create that final touch and adds emphasis and ambiance to that special room. The feeling may be romantic, elegant and sophisticated, eerie or even warm and cozy. So, what kind of mood do you want to set with your fireplace mantel?
