Courage on United Flight 93

There are varying viewpoints on the making of a movie about United Flight 93. My piece is not intended to take any particular position about the movie's production. My purpose is to honor the courageous actions of the flight's passengers. Courage that should be honored and emulated.

Ive read various theories about the final minutes of United Flight 93. But for me there is only one certain truth. The courageous actions of its passengers.

Whether or not we think a movie should have been made about this flight doesnt change the fact that its part of our American history. Our national narrative. The unfolding saga in the war against terrorism. A war that often seems without obvious rules and clearly against an enemy without country or ethical boundaries.

Its certainly not the first time that Hollywood made a movie depicting a national tragedy. The same could be said for numerous books and songs. We seem to be a people who like to record our events and feelings about those events.

Without question the actual details of those final minutes can only be guessed. Phone conversations between passengers and relatives tell us passengers became aware their hijacked plane was likely to be used as a terrorists weapon. And . . . that they must do something.

So, the courage of everyday people is told in a movie some refuse to see, some feel they must see, some criticize, some praise.

And what of courage? While there are numerous stories of courage described in the Bible, the one which comes to my thought first is David battling and conquering Goliath. David was a shepherd-boy who volunteered to do what trained soldiers feared they couldnt.

Ive always loved this story. The setting was army against army. An enormous and frightful soldier from the enemys camp, Goliath, made a challenge for one man to fight him. David wasnt in the army. But his brothers were. Their father had sent David to his brothers army camp to bring food.

He was obedient. He wasnt looking for fame and glory. Davids noble desire was to help and he believed with all his heart he could.

At first the army leader questioned Davids ability to face such an experienced soldier since David was a mere boy. He said, You cant go and fight this Philistine. Youre too young and inexperienced and hes been at this fighting business since before you were born. Yet leading spirituality author, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, individuals strength is in proportion to their courage.

What kind of courage did this young boy have, which I believe was also the kind of courage Eddy was speaking of? Not animal courage often flaunted by impetuosity, brashness or daring. But moral courage, exhibited by Davids fortitude, determination, and undaunted spirit.

And its these qualities of moral courage that I have no doubt strengthened the hearts and emboldened the actions of passengers on United Flight 93. Qualities that must surely be part of the foundation of all right thinking and acting.

What greater actions are there than to do what is right? Actions impelled by pure and selfless motives. Not prompted by ego or inspired by grandeur of self.

Do you think such qualities are reserved for the few? With God the Father-Mother of all, my hope and expectation is that surely all of His children have all they need at every moment. Would not this include moral courage as an ability that is instilled in each of us by God? Completely independent of and unlimited by physical prowess.

Moral courage guiding our thoughts, decisions, and actions shows us how to be better men and women. Gives us the strength to overcome seemingly overwhelming human odds. Enables us to fight the good fight.

I have no doubt the passengers on Flight 93 fought the good fight. Theres no question their actions were compelled by moral courage. I deeply wish the outcome of their success could have resulted in their lives continuing with their loved ones. But their example of courage lives on.

Their example assures you and me that we are also armored in the strength of moral courage. That we can go forward through our lives prepared to battle and disarm any Goliath.

Whether or not everyone goes to see the movie of United 93 doesnt stop us all from honoring and remembering its passengers. Everyday people with moral courage. Courage we can discover within ourselves. Courage of better men and women who people a better world.

Waiting For Synchronicity

Do you remember the scene in the movie The Minority Report where Tom Cruise is escaping with the psychic or precognitive and they are being pursued in the mall? In that scene, the psychic keeps telling Tom Cruise to Wait! Waitwaitwait. Shes telling him to wait for the moment of perfect synchrony, when a man with a huge bunch of balloons will stand in just the right place and hide them from their pursuers. The whole time shes telling him to wait, though, Tom Cruise is anxious and ready to run.

Now doesnt that sound like scene from our own lives? At least, thats how the Universe would see us as we go about our daily activities. Heres what it sees: we ask the Universe to bring us something and the Universe immediately leaps into action to bring it to us. But rather than simply waiting for that moment of synchrony, when all the factors come together in perfect order, we leap into action and try to make everything work. If we would just wait for the moment of perfect synchrony, as Tom Cruise did in the movie, we would find that it would come to us easily, peacefully and without fuss.

In this society, we have an extreme bias for action, productivity and achievement. We believe that we must do everything in our lives, so were always in motion. In fact, its worse than that. Not only are we in motion almost every waking moment of every day, but weve also planned out our active motion for the coming days, weeks and months. Whether its work, PTA meetings, hobby-type activities or sports, we are completely booked. Or even if we arent physically booked at every moment, were so mentally busy trying to figure it out that we might as well be doing something physical!

The result of all of this scheduling and mental gyration is that we dont have any room in our lives for synchronicity. We have literally left not even the smallest crack through which the Universe can squeeze through that which weve asked for and we wonder why the Universe doesnt deliver!!

Manifestation, contrary to popular belief, is neither a totally active sort of thing nor a totally passive waiting. It is an active anticipation of whats to come, a joyful expectation accompanied by inspired activity. In manifestation, you get a boost of anticipation followed by inspired ideas, followed by joyful activity, followed by yet more anticipation.

Its like walking a winding, hilly trail. When youre at the bottom of a hill, all you can see is the top of the next hill or curve and you anticipate what you might see at the top. Youre so excited by what you might see, that you take action and walk up there. Once there, you see a magnificent view, and also the next phase of the trail. This leads to more anticipation drawing you forward, more action and more pleasure. You see, it is an active participation in life of all your senses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual with appreciation and pause regularly interspersed.

If it seems like the Universe isnt delivering what youve asked for, you might not be leaving enough room in your life to let it in. To create some room, take one day a week, if possible, and schedule nothing. Let that day be a blank canvas on which the Universe can paint its perfect synchrony. If you cant take a full day, take at least a few hours for yourself every week and see what magic unfolds! Enjoy!

A Georgia Superhero!

One thing Ive loved since I was a little boy were superheroes. Believe me, I read so many Superman and Batman comic books when I was a kid that its not even funny. I loved their varied super powers, and how they constantly got out of scrapes that would have destroyed any normal man. I was so into them that I also became big fans of the Flash, Spiderman, the Fantastic Four, the Green Lantern, and several others. Im also quite excited that theres a new Batman movie out, Batman Begins, and its early reviews are outstanding! To say that Ill see it more than once is an understatement, the Batman character is terrifically fascinating, and I hope thisll be the start of a whole new string of Batman films.

All that having been said, Ive started wondering if I could create a superhero. A superhero whos different, a Southern superhero, and more specifically, a Georgia superhero. A superhero that we Georgians can claim as one of our own. And, if I think really hard about it, if I think of all the unique things that Georgia has to offer, and if I think about the kind of superhero that would excite me enough to go out and buy a comic book, one potential superhero fits the bill. Readers of this column, yall are about to be the first people ever to hear about our newest superhero, yes, our first ever Georgia superhero - ladies and gentlemen, let me proudly introduce you to....

Red Clay Man!

Yes, thats right, Red Clay Man! Faster than a man whos just eaten a large helping of aged jalapenos! More powerful than a Okefenokee gator in heat! Able to leap tall fire ant mounds in a single bound!

Isnt he the most? And dont laugh, Red Clay Man is endowed with powers far different than that of the average superhero. All Red Clay Man has to do to get ready for some crime fighting is to go out into rural Georgia and fill up his Crackerjack Back Pack with handfuls of red clay. Armed with one of our most precious natural substances, he can go out and fight crime like no ones business! Just think of it - a criminal holds up a bank in Metter and decides to drive out in the country to count the loot. He pulls over on some little back road somewhere and starts counting. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a big glob of red clay hits him smack between the eyes! Hes blinded! And, if he happens to have the presence of mind to try and run away, well, two globs of wet red clay splash down on the ground right in front of him, causing him to slip and fall. At that point, Red Clay Man slaps his kudzu cuffs on the evildoer and renders justice to him, Georgia style!

Okay, there may be a couple of minor flaws in Red Clay Man, but hey, every superhero has his or her weaknesses. I guess he could only fight crime out in the rural parts of Georgia because hed have to keep his supply of red clay continually replenished, but hey, rural Georgia has crime too, right? And I suppose hed need a way to get around our state in order to fight crime, so what better vehicle for him to ride around in and terrify evildoers with than the Maypop Mobile? And, since most crime fighters need a sidekick, a partner, someone to help get him out of those tight superhero type scrapes that all the great crime fighters get into, I guess Ill need to create him one. Folks, I have the perfect one in mind, Ill team Red Clay Man up with our newest superhero sidekick, the Boiled Peanut! Put those two together, and you have one heckuva crime fighting team, two superheroes thatll put the fear of our previous state flag into any evil doer that challenges them!

Red Clay Man and the Boiled Peanut, our two newest superheroes and Georgia ones to boot! Hey, if we can host the Olympics in Atlanta, and if we can elect a President from here, well, we can have our own superheroes, too! And, its in our economic best interests if Red Clay Man catches on - just think about it. Batman is out there selling tons of t-shirts, toys, and more, just think of the red clay samples we could ship out of here on account of our newest superhero! Why, the proceeds from these sales might be so great that they could even help get the City of Macon out of hock!

Campus Ampasayya Movie Review and Rating

Release date : July 30, 2016

Rating : 2/5

Director : Prabhakar

Producer : Vijayalakshmi Jaini

Music Director : Ghantasala Viswanath

Starring : Shyam Kumar, Pavani

‘Ampasayya’, the award winning novel has now been made into a full length feature film titled Campus and has hit the screens today. Directed by Prabhakar Jaini, let’s now see how this film turns out to be.

Story:-

The film is set during the early 70’s in Hyderabad. Ravi(Shyam Kumar), who belongs to a small village comes to Hyderabad and joins Osmania university to pursue his higher education. Things seem to go fine until one day when Ravi suddenly starts getting mentally depressed and spoils his health.

What happened to him suddenly ? What is his depression all about ? and How will Ravi come out of it ? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-

The backdrop of the film is quite interesting and has been set in an interesting premise. Shyam Kumar who does the central character has done a decent job. The young actor portrays all the various tensions through his role well.

Pavani, who did the role of Rati is ok in her character. Some of the confrontation scenes between the lead pair during the second half have been executed well. The problems that rural villages in Telangana faced during early years have been showcased well.

Minus Points: –

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the lack of hardcore emotions. The novel from which the film was made had strong emotions but sadly, they are completely missing in this film. There are many scenes which are quite repetitive and irritate the audience.

As the film happens in a day in the life of this youngster, there was a huge scope for the makers to showcase the proceedings in a thrilling way. But sadly, things go haywire as these important factors are pushed aside. Climax of the film is also not convincing and has been wrapped up in a hurry.

Technical Aspects:-

Director Prabhakar Jaini chooses a novel concept but fails in his execution completely. Whatever feel and grip the novel had, is totally missing in the film. Neither the emotions or pain of the young man have been showcased convincingly in the film. Production values are pretty good and so was the art direction. Music was just below average and so were the dialogues.

Verdict:-

Whenever you make films based on famous novels and hard hitting subjects, one should be very careful in executing them perfectly on the big screen. But sadly, the makers of Campus fail to narrate the film in a gripping manner and miss out on major emotions making this film a tedious watch this weekend.

Making Fantasy A Reality: How A Homebuilder Used Windows To Make A Movie House Come To Life

If you love animated movies, the movie Up is probably on the list of ones you must not miss. For some lucky fans, the movie is their reality with an Up-themed home. A homebuilder made sure to replicate every little detail, from the windows to the mailbox outside.

In 2009, moviegoers were treated to a new story from Disney/Pixar. Movie watchers were instantly drawn into the story, which centered around an elderly man who uses thousands of helium balloons to lift his home into the air on the way to South America to fulfill a dream that he had with his deceased wife. The story is a sweet one and the house takes center stage as viewers watch it float through the air on its journey to South America. When a Utah area homebuilder had the idea to pay homage to the film with a life size replica of the building, Disney/Pixar gave an unprecedented approval after two years of discussions.

How The Exterior, Including Windows, Sets The First Impression

Throughout the movie, the home looks depressed, with the windows in sad shape and the colors dull. This wasn't the impression homebuilders wanted to make with the life size replica so the builder used bright, sunny colors like baby blue, sunny yellow, lime green and other beautiful colors that showed off what the building looked in its prime. Because the builder wanted it to have a great exterior and be energy efficient, they turned to a local window replacement company for advice. The window replacement company helped the builder determine which windows fit the whimsical feel of the house. Additional outdoor touches like Carl and Ellie's mailbox, the weather vane and even the garden hose reel help complete the look.

How The Inside Continues The Experience

Even though the house was built in 2011, the builders took great care to replicate the inside, as well as the outside. In the movie, Ellie the wife, paints murals above the fireplace and in the room that she hopes will someday belong to a baby. The real life home has these same murals, but the details don't stop there. The photos that line the staircase feature the characters from the movie and the furniture is modeled after the style of the 1950s. Even the kitchen is decorated in a retro look, with shiny, baby blue appliances. Although everything is designed to look old-fashioned, the house couples old-fashioned charm with modern amenities like a high efficiency washer and dryer.

What The Home Did For The Local Economy

In 2011, the building sold for 400,000 to a couple who planned to make it their home. However, before the house was ever sold, more than 45,000 people toured the house through the Salt Lake City Parade of Homes. The building brought people to the local area from all over the country, which increased the area's tourism and inspired the local government to pass a resolution honoring the building. Additionally, touches like the energy efficient windows and high efficiency appliances mean that the home's carbon footprint is reduced.

The house became privately owned in 2011 and therefore isn't open to tours, but homeowners who want to experience the charm of an older home with the efficiency of a new one can ask the builder for an Up-style home. Although it won't be painted with the movie's cheery colors or be full of 1950s furniture, owners can have their own piece of movie history.

High quality music, movies and games for all platforms

A few years ago, when I was trying to find some good tunes for my computers playlists on the net, I always turned blue from anger. The reason? Tons of pages advertising free mp3 downloads, high quality, unbelievable amount of files. The reality is that you can search for one song or movie for hours and in the end all you end up with is a crappy sample or corrupted file.

For me it came clear in matter of weeks that nothing comes for free. I was completely fed up with all sorts of flashing ads and popups. So I made the desicion that my mental health was more important than a few dollars and although I had some doubts about all those music/movie/game sites that charge you, I still signed up and haven't regret it.

The site I'm talking about is Unlimited Download Center.

They really are nearly as good as they advertise (no-one really is as good as they advertise, by the way). Hosting over 6 million files, there really is something for every taste.

If we'd do a bit of maths then it would turn out that when an average song is, lets say 3 minutes long, then they'd host 18 000 000 minutes of music, ie 12 500 days (over 34 years).

First of all, what you need to do, is sign up and download and install one simple program. Even I could do it by myself, I'm sure you can too. They have versions for Windows (of course), Mac OS (that's me), and Linux. This small program is really easy to use and extremely straightforward, but in case you get in trouble, there is a customer support service, that I have used only once and must say that the response came quickly and was friendly, as well as professional, and what's the most important - it solved my problem (couldn't connect for some reason).

Unlimited Download Center also offers Movie and Game downloads. I personally have just browsed the game directory and only downloaded only some movies, but the selection seemed quite decent. So if you are used to listening your favourite artists, watching the lastest movies or playing games on your PC, then UDC is really a place I would suggest - the money you pay them is really next to nothing compared to the frustration of faulty files, slow downloads and flashing ads.

Touch or Physical Keyboard for Your Cell Phone

Occasionally I feel that there are more decisions than there needs to be when it comes to cell phones these days. You could have anything from a basic cell to the most high tech piece of equipment that can act as GPS or a small movie screen.

Sometimes I think there are more choices then there need to be when it comes to cell p-hones these days. You can have anything from a basic cell to the most high tech piece of equipment that can act as GPS or a small movie screen. Because of the many changes in cell phones there is now the ongoing dilemma between consumers on whether to choose a regular keypad or a touch keypad. Although the choice should be simple it really is not.

The touch keypad is an idea that is pure genius. Unfortunately that is where its splendor ends. The touch keypad has many faults that make this choice astoundingly simple. The problem with the touch pad is that the screen does not register every contact so misspellings are quite frequent. Not to mention that many times the number or letter next to the one you are trying to hit inexplicably ends up being the one that appears in your text. While the difficulties are many you will still see people fighting with their touch screens on a regular basis. There really are only two reasons why:

1. These people had no idea of the issues or
2. These people are simply vain and believe the phone makes them look super cool.

While the touch screen has its issues I'm sure one day they will be corrected. Until then, for those that are sensible amongst us, we have the reliable keypad. If you want a no nonsense form to communicate through text or keep up with emails there is really no comparing the two products. The keypad is far superior to current touch screen models.
