Recession Proof Activities and Businesses

We are squarely in the middle of a recessionyet many business sectors are still succeeding. When people getstressed they find ways to enjoy a good movie, go to the links andswing their golf clubs, share a conversation with those who matter themost and to take mini-vacations.

Since the 1920s few businesssectors can claim to be recession proof but its clear that in the newmillennium many business have proven to be able to weather a recessionif not be recession proof. Hollywood has always been one of thesebusinesses. In the 70s when gas was through the roof and we were in arecession Hollywood actually saw an increase in movie revenue. Theprice was always right for a family struggling to pay the bills andninety-minute movie always served as a mental break from the dailygrind that weighed so heavily on peoples minds. Although the price ofa movie has risen a lot since the 70s (along with gas prices) itsclear to see that Hollywood is still proving to be protected from therecessionary woes that many people find themselves in.

Whenpeople find it hard to get from paycheck to paycheck they look foravenues to relax. Many men and women alike find that taking up sportslike flag football, softball and golf offer relief from their dailystress with minimal investment. Swinging those golf clubs help to melt away those work related frustrations that keep their stomachs in knots all week long.

As technology advances we are finding new recession proof industries.Another recession resistant business has been the world of wirelesscommunication. Although the same cant be said for landline services, the wireless mobile phone industry has been booming and even hiring newemployees when most every other company has been completing masslayoffs. When it comes to communication people need to be on the gomore now then ever. As many people look to take on a second job or havea new family member out in the work force the wireless industry hasbacked into a recession proof parking spot that seems to be quitesecure; at least this time around.

With cities like Las Vegasfeeling the pinch of the economy many smaller vacation spots areactually seeing an increase in revenue. People are choosing to forgothe larger vacations like Disney World in favor of smaller destinationscloser to home. For some this is a necessary adjustment to their usualplans but the end result is a smaller stream of revenue that has beengiven to those businesses that would otherwise be overlooked for thelarger more popular destinations.

As with all recessions wewill overcome and move to more prosperous times again but there is alot to be learned from times like these. Look to those companies whocan survive the worst of times and look to the bonding that happenswhen a recession occurs. Most of the items discussed above spur socialinteraction, which is the key to happiness. So this goes to show thatmoney isnt the root of happiness.
