A Walk to Remember is a 2002 film based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. It stars Mandy Moore and Shane West as the in the lead roles. The movie is a romance centered around two teenagers in a small town.

The plot involves a young high school student named Landon who is threatened with expulsion after playing a prank on another student. The principle offers him another change, but only if he participates in after school activities and tries to find new friends. This punishment leads Landon to performing in the high school play.

Landon approaches Jamie, a classmate, to help him learn his lines. Jamie is unpopular, bookish, and has a very protective father who is the pastor of the local church. Landon realizes that befriending Jamie may harm his reputation, and he asks her to help him in private. Jamie refuses to be his friend in secret, and ends the friendship.

Landon realizes he has feelings for Jamie, and begins to pursue her after getting permission from Jamie's father. The pair fall in love, despite Jamie's earlier warning to Landon to not fall in love with her. Jamie admits she has cancer, and is dying. Landon stays by her side, and helps her complete a list of things she wants to do before she dies.

Jamie reveals that her number one thing to do before she dies is get married in the church where her mother grew up. Landon builds Jamie a telescope so she can view a star he had named after her. Jamie is touched and tells Landon she loves him. Landon proposes, and the couple marry.

Before she dies, Jamie tells Landon that he is her angel for staying with her during her illness. Landon goes on to medical school after her death, and realizes that Jamie taught him faith and how to truly love. He remains friends with Jamie's father.

The idea for A Walk to Remember came to Nicholas Sparks after his sister was diagnosed with cancer. She met a man who wanted to marry her, despite knowing she was ill and may die. The film and the book are dedicated to her.
