In the operating room, the surgeon will use either the open or closed technique to rearrange and remove nasal bones, cartilage and tissue before sculpting into a more attractive configuration. The open method is performed by placing an incision directly below the nostrils in order to open the region. This technique allows much more visibility and access but will leave a tiny scar. In the closed version, all work is performed via the nostril passages. A nose is made up of both bones and cartilage, the harder skeletal system is located in the upper bridge portion, while the more flexible cartilage is contained by the lower half.
