Vacation spots are not as hard to find as the movies make them out to be. You don't have be the movies main character-Clarke to know that the more time you spend in a car driving across country for an amusement park destination just means the more time that you aren't doing what you want to do which is bond with your family and have fun.

Vacation spots should be about the fun. They shouldn't be about spending a fortune or learning how small a car can feel after a ten hour drive to reach an overcrowded amusement land.

Even if your kid's aren't history buffs they can touch the adobe walls and walk the same steps that Army soldiers took as they stood guard against attack. And attacks did come, this area which is so peaceful and sleepy now- was once a battle ground between the white settlers who pushed further into the high desert area and made their homes amongst the Cottonwoods and the Native Americans who pushed back just as determined to keep their ancestral lands for the next generation of warriors and hunters.

Push your way from the remains of the old fort and you and your kids can try to answer the mystery of what the ghost lights are in the small town of Marfa that appear randomly and dance around like fireflies. The glowing balls of light have no known source and have been doing their dance for over a hundred years. Even if you have no answers, your kids will be delighted by the experience of trying to figure out what they are.

And if this area weren't already the perfect vacation spot consider the untouched beauty of the area that seems to have missed out on the changes of time that affect everywhere else.
